I love Hawaii. We used to go to Hawaii 3-5 times a year before I got sick.  I miss it so much.   :'(  We thought about relocating there, but the medical care just isn't up to par for dialysis/transplant patients.  There are patients from Hawaii in my dialysis clinic all the time that were flown here for treatment.

I really want to go to Fiji, Australia and South Africa, but not until I'm transplanted and can dive again.

As for saving money, I am a Mileage Ho.  I put everything and anything I can on a credit card with a mileage or points program and pay off the card each month.  Even my home utilities are charged to my cards.  We fly free and get free rental cars with all the points.  :2thumbsup;

Pismo Beach....We stayed with the kids, but what a romantic place that is.
Walks on the beach watching the sunrise.
Looking for sand dollars the seagulls have not eaten.
Finding that perfect one and admiring its beauty.
Driving through the countryside looking at the beaches.
Driving to find a restaurant neither has tried before.
Walking down to the center of town.
Window shopping, looking in the boutiques for special things.
Clam chowder and a piece of pie.
Holding hands while walking on the pier looking at the ocean.
Waves lapping at your feet while you watch the sunset.
Talking and laughing with each other.

Lake Tahoe is cool, too.
Beautiful lake to look at.
We had a rainbow arc out over the mountain and the lake one morning!
The ski slopes are fabulous. Although we went in the summer, so no snow.
Gift shops and shopping galore.
Casinos are well lit and clean.
The restaurants are many and some serve reasonably priced food. They can be pricey so choose wisely.
There are tours around the lake that will show you everything around the lake area.  We took one. It was a good value.
We saw more stuff than we knew was there.
There are hiking and biking trails everywhere around the lake.
They offer four wheel driving adventure for the adventerous traveler.
Fishing and boating activities galore.
There are two paddle wheelers that go out on the lake for cruises.  I recommend the dinner cruises. Very romantic. For around thirty dollars each you get the cruise and dinner with champagne.
Reno is an hour's drive.
The wine country area is down the mountain a ways.
The historic capital of Nevada is down the moutnain, too.  It is a nice little town to see.
Beautiful scenery and picture places abound!
Dialysis can be done is Reno. Not a bad drive. It is about an hour away.

Yes, I am stealing my posts on Renal Romance over to here.

My daughter works for Nowegian Cruise Lines in Hawaii -- and I agree that it is one of the most beautiful spots in the world.  I have been fortunate to travel to many wonderful countries----but true to my "name", I would go to Paris.  ;musicalnote; I love Paris in the springtime, I love Paris in the fall  ;musicalnote;

What about travelling to Hawaii on PD? How do you think I would go?    :urcrazy;

I think I would have to go back to doing CAPD as I don't think Fresenius has the sleep safe in the area. But that would be o.k. I am a little unsure if it is worth all the fuss. Travel insurance etc. Maybe I should stay in Australia?

opinions would be great!   ;D

What is a "sleep safe"?

I wouldn't let PD stop you from going on vacation... enjoy your life, embrace it! :)

I went on a few vacations when I was on PD... and I remained on my cycler. I had Fresenius deliver a cycler to the hotel in the state I was staying in, and the supplies I would need while there... so i didn't have to bring anything with me but like my clamp and w/e I wanted, but nothing big like a cycler or supplies.. and when your done, they come pick up your cycler from the hotel.

Good luck hun!

My fave place is St. John in the USVI!!  My dh and I got married there and spent our first wedding anniversary there.  I love love love it! We plan on taking our son one day and since we just celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary, it is a pretty lucky place for us.  Trunk Bay is gorgeous and a great place to snorkel.  We always reant a villa and they are pretty reasonable and usually have private pools, so you can skinny dip!  It's very family friendly and the people are so welcoming and nice.  Great food, beautiful beaches, romantic atmosphere, GREAT shopping at St. Thomas, and nice people make it worth the trip!

The only vacations I've ever been on was to relatives houses in East Hampton, NY and Jacksonville, FL. Way too crowded and obnoxious in East Hampton and way too boring in Jacksonville for me. Oh yeah, and my honeymoon to Vegas, but my husband and I weren't thrilled with that either. If I could go anywhere, I'd love to travel around Italy.

You know I hate questions like these, Medicare will not pay for dialysis outside the US so I can't go where I really would like to, I feel trapped. The other day I went to lunch with a few people and vacation came up. They all started talking about differant islands and such, I just kept my mouth shut and was mildly pissed...Boxman

So, you have a working transplant, as of right now? I'm just confused by your previous post, why can't you go on vacation b/c dialysis isn't covered ooutside the US? Did you mean when you were on dialysis? Sorry :)

I am on dialysis as we speak. I qualified to go on the list, no transplant yet. and yes no travel out of the country unless I want to pay for dialysis out of my own pocket.. Sorry I wasn't clearer....Boxman

What is a "sleep safe"?

Sleep Safe is my Fresenius Cycler. I did post a pic in the home set up section. I think the States are still using the Newton IQ. Please correct me if I am wrong. I think it would be a hassell to bring it over. So I would have to go back to CAPD. I think I will can the Hawaii idea for the moment and stay within Australia. It was a nice idea, to help celebrate a special birthday.   8)

My favorite is going to Arizona, wouldn't mind living there. Only other place I would like to go is Austrailia or New Zealand, but I might have a phobia of flying over large amounts of water. (to many airport movies). Hmm vacation secrete #256, WIN THE LOTTO? :rofl;
