Hey. So I went to this dark park in pa last night with a friend to watch the perseides meteor shower. It was so cool, tons of shooting stars/meteors to watch. It was very chilly and dewy wet out but so so cool. I highly recommend it if u get the opportunity. It was my first meteor shower ever, definitely bucket list worthy. A lot of driving to get there and some lack of sleep but definitely worth it.
Yesterday and Tonite are the two peak nights when u should be able to see the most, but i think it can be seen thru the next week or so. If u get the chance to go somewhere without any light pollution and watch it I would highly recommend it. So cool.

I live in an area where there is just too much ambient light, but in the past when we've been on holiday somewhere much more rural, we've been able to see the most amazing things in the night sky! There is a dark park near to where we go in Michigan each summer, and I'm looking forward to going there just next week. I'm really glad you got to see the meteor shower!

Totally agree. I have lived my entire life on the outskirts of London, got very used to light pollution. When I was in my twenties my father bought a holiday chalet in the middle of nowhere. It was a few minutes walk to the beach, and a short drive to the nearest big town (Great Yarmouth), but far enough away to have little or no light pollution. I remember the first night outside on a cloudless night. I glanced up, saw the stars, millions of the buggers, and lay down on the grass to look at them. Unfortunately the reason I was out so late was that I was walking the dog in the valley before bed. He eventually realised I was no longer with him (middle of nowhere, no roads, no people, no sheep, so no need for a lead), came back looking for me, and when he found me lying on the ground he must've thought I had collapsed because he began frantically licking my face to revive me.

Yeah, Croydon is not exactly the best place for stargazing.
I remember my first sight of a truly beautiful star-filled sky was someplace in Norfolk, too!
