Title: Transplant and sugar
Post by: Jmsaldana on August 09, 2018, 05:43:21 PM
My son had a tranrsplant 3 years ago.  But he is having issues with his sugar.  Is that normal or is anyone else going thru the same problem

Post transplant immunosuppressants can cause med-induced diabetes in some people.  It is neither "normal" nor "abnormal".  I've not had such an issue, but I know others who have.

If not already, hopefully he can be given a tester kit so that he can check his blood sugar level every day and learn when insulin may be needed. I would assume this would be temporary(probably from the prednisone) like how some women get gestational diabetes during pregnancy. Unfortunately in my friends case it didn't go away and she's on insulin the rest of her life.
