Title: Greetings!
Post by: diydietitian on April 05, 2018, 01:21:03 PM
Hi all! My name is Leah, and I am thrilled to finally introduce myself to this wonderful group of individuals. A few quick things about myself:

1) I am employed full-time as a Renal (Nephrology) Dietitian in an outpatient hemodialysis clinic.
2) I recently became a board certified specialist in renal nutrition (CSR)
3) My user name "DIY dietitian" sums up my attitude about nutrition and diet in general. I am a hands-on person, and have actually followed some of the renal diet "restrictions" to gain perspective on what I may be asking of patients.
4) I like to ZUMBA, take naps, cook easy recipes, admire my cat (Fredrik), and of course, spend time with friends and family.

I could carry on, but this seems like a good start. Thank you for welcoming me into this community, I genuinely appreciate the active members and have referred many patients to this website for support.

The "pre-renal" diet is a b*tch!  Just thought you should know.  LOL!  It just seems so, well, unhealthy!  It's so odd that "healthy" food can be so dangerous if you have crappy kidneys!

Welcome!  We are always thrilled to have a renal dietician in our community!

Welcome, Leah!

The two renal dietitians I've worked with so far have been incredibly helpful and insightful and passionate about their work, and I've learned so much from them! I'm so glad to have your voice here in the mix.

Welcome Leah!

Glad to have you here as I KNOW that I don't eat near 'right'.  I just manage to get by. By the hair of my chinny chin chin. Which you will never see because my beard gets in the way.

You know I am going to tell my Dietician about you joining.  I've been telling her to check us out for a year now.

Hope to see more of you regularly.

Take Care,

Charlie B53

Charlie B53: Heck yes! Your Dietitian is missing out, I have learned SO much over the previous year or so just from lurking on the boards. :) Thank you for the message.

Hello diy-dietician and welcome to IHD,
I have been on a special vegetarian-kidney-friendly-diy-diet for many years and it goes well with me.
How did I find out about this diet? When I became seriously ESRF-pre-dialysis in 2006 with supposedly a few weeks 'till dialysis, my husband researched the Internet for a kidney-friendly diet which could assist me to avoid dialysis for as long as possible and he compared all vegetarian-food-components mentioned on all medical papers he could find mentioned on the Internet. With his comparing all these different food-components, there were, in the end, only very few vegetarian foods left for me to eat. But the most important main components remained for me to eat every day a few freshly-cooked asparagus as a natural diuretic and to drink every day a small glass of fresh-lime-juice (another natural diuretic). I still continue with this vegetarian diet etc. and my "two little fighters are still "with me" and they are still working a little & I have been on dialysis for over three years now.
Best wishes and a hearty welcome from Kristina. :grouphug;

Kristina, I actually will be attending a lecture next month on the vegetarian diet for dialysis patients! Thank you for sharing with me, and for the hearty welcome. :)
