Hi everyone!
Hope all is well. What a hectic few days it has been lol. So most of you guys know I got on the list March 6 and on Tuesday I got a call from the transplant center saying we might have a kidney for you. She told me all about the kidney. It was a 20 year old very health all the good stuff but unfortunate how he or she passed. So since they didn't have a few labs and needed it for antibody checking they told me 5o come in. Weird I gave the test tube to my dialysis center but I'm guessing it got lost in the mail. So I went to Georgetown and went to emergency for a measly blood draw lol. Family was going through lots of emotions and I felt more worried about my mom since she seemed quiet because she worries like crazy. Just last year I was in a very bad state and couldn't walk until much later. So I told her to stay strong and not to worry even though I was nervous like crazy on the inside. So we come home around 2 am and they coordinator (nice lady) said she would call me a t 8:30 to tell me to come in or not. She calls and says the or is ready but we are still going through cross matching. So I go back to sleep and wake up around 10. I had a weird feeling that the surgery probably wouldn't take place today. You may not believe me but trust me I did. So which is why I ate a big breakfast. At 11 another coordinator called ( seemed rude and incompetent) she said we want to admit you. I asked okay is the kidney mine for sure? She said yes. I asked why didn't the other person take it and they said they were too unstable. She called 30 min later asking how soon can you get here I said umm I guess I'll take an uber with my aunt. So we get into the uber and 30 min into the drive the ride coordinator called and said Aaisha... I don't know what to tell you. She goes on saying we made a mistake there were a lot of donors and there was a mix up. She said sorry a bunch of times and she said she would pay for the uber.. 60 bucks total. At this moment I can honestly tell you I didn't feel one bit sad. I was raised in a way where we think anything and everything happens for a reason. The kidney just wasnt meant to be. The family was disappointed but I said it okay guys!! Itll come. So going through emotions made me extremely tired! I just wanted to nap which I did lol. Anyways, another lady called to apologize and assured me they would pay for that uber ride but they haven't called all day so..I'm not sure if I should call again or not. So I'm guessing since I got a call Tuesday it means I'm on top of the list?? Hope things go well for me in the future. Sorry for the long post.

Congratulations. Sorry for all the stress. Enemy a normal call is a roller coaster.

Wow, I’m sorry that didn’t work out for you, but yes, maybe you are at the top of the list now! Any kidney call seems better than no kidney call, I think.

I read some of the transplant forums about the call. I'm confused because some people would get a call and sometimes a year later they would get another call... if you got a call wouldn't that mean your on top of the list? Makes me worried I might have to wait a year or two. Or it could be different situations for everyone. Just a note I have been on dialysis for 7 years.

All sorts of things can go wrong between the time you get the call and the organ is planted. Something about not counting chickens until they hatch comes to mind.

Not sure what you mean..

Every kidney is different and the pool of possible recipients can change as people are temporarily removed because of short term illness, travel or that day they say no to a transplant offer for some reason. Also you are completing with other hospitals so there could be a breakdown in communication between all the transplant coordinators. Then someone new like you might show up in the region with a long wait time and change priority for everyone down the list.
I think it’s best to assume you will have a wait despite the recent offer, but hopefully it’s not many years since you have a long wait time credit.
My many failed transplant calls were long before my transplant about a month before my sixth year. Other people with their unique blood types, ages and such will have other wait times.

Hmm my coordinator well two coordinators said to stay prepared as an offer will come very soon. But I understand what you mean about other people at other hospitals and the different blood types. I am O negative so.. I believe it will be some wait before I get one. Super stressful because I just want to be done. I'm dreading surgery because it's real hard on me physically. It's like I'm starting all over.

So I found out the kidney I was about to get went to someone from my dialysis facility different shift though. Thought it was very interesting and was really happy for her! She got a kidney and a pancreas, hope she's doing well.
