For the past year I have been asking why I have not been put on the transplant list. My nephrologist keeps telling me she has written to them, and after each appointment says she will write again to see what the delay is. The manager of the clinic has emailed them to hurry them up (mostly, I think, because I am a pain in the ass as a patient and she wants me to be given a new kidney so that I am out of her clinic). However I have heard nothing.
Today I got a 'phone call from the transplant department. The person I spoke to had 'phoned to ask me why, since I have been on dialysis for over a year now, had I not applied for a transplant yet (they like to encourage transplants in England, because the state pays 100% of all medical costs and a transplant plus the associated meds are a lot cheaper than years on dialysis).
Turns out that the nephrologist has been lying to me. She sent the first letter to begin a work up (to see if I was eligible) but when that came back as OK she did not ask them to go ahead with the process (the process of going on the list for a transplant cannot proceed without a written request from the patient's nephrologist). And those letters to ask what the delay was were a fiction, they were never sent.
Bottom line. I could have been on the transplant list six to nine months ago if my nephrologist wasn't a (insert worst insult you know here).

Completely utterly disgracefull and disgusting Paul. Write/ring/mail your medical director. Is there a Patient Liason Officer at your hosp?
Just do something. Are you on the list now?
Love, Cas

The good news is your wait time will be backdated to when you started D, so you probably will get the transplant at the same time as if the neph had done her job.
When I first started the process, the transplant center reached out to my neph on vacation in the Bahamas to get his approval.

Ohh I intend to do something, believe me I intend to do something. However out of fairness I'll give the nephrologist a chance to explain herself first.
Are you on the list now?
No I'm not, red tape abounds - but at least someone is looking into it.

Somehow, as mad as you are ( and I dont blame you one bit ) I just know you will not punch out your (female) Neph. Altho, one could easily understand if you did.

What a strange story!!!!!
Is there any chance to find out why this nephrologist acted in such a peculiar way?
I mean, what is the point of it ? Am I missing something ?
Best good luck wishes from Kristina. :grouphug;

I am not so sure that I could be patient enough to wait for the Neph to fabricate any type of explanation.
Most likely I would be writing a Nasty-Gram of complaint to the Neph's governing board. Spelling out in great detail the Neph's incompetence and lies.
But I've always been an A$$ Hole.

That depends on the nephrologist's reaction to the accusal. If she chooses to explain, I'll know. But if she tries some excuse like "I cannot understand it, I sent those letters, they must have all got lost in the post." Then I'll never know.

Initially I did not intend to wait long. I found this out Yesterday, and today I was either going to make an appointment to see the nephrologist or ask the clinic to contact her there and then by 'phone (she covers several clinics, won't be back in mine until Wednesday). However that "may all your wishes come true" curse hit me again today. (See http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=34434.0 if you are interested in the details.) And I did not feel I should add to the clinic staff's problems by demanding they contact their nephrologist because she was a lying piece of excrement! I'll wait until next week.

:2thumbsup; I had to laugh when I read your story. My new nephrologist from China tested the limits of my patience yesterday. She asked me the same question ten times! I told her I didn't remember something, and she wouldn't accept my response. She doesn't understand that dialysis taxes your memory at times. I was so disgusted I left my appointment early. At my center they make you see a social worker, nutritonist, your nurse, and a doctor, or two. It's a teaching hospital. It's a waste of time, really. I know the nutritional guidelines by heart. I don't need a social worker. My nurse takes good care of me. I don't see why I have to see two doctors either. One should do, or have both in the same room, at the same time?

Chances are one is a Resident of Fellow shadowing the attending as part of his/her training.
