Title: Hi from Zach's Sister
Post by: Lisa S on January 15, 2018, 06:47:12 AM
Hi there. My name is Lisa and I'm Zach's sister. Many of you on this site know him from many years of posts. As many of you may know, he passed away a year ago on January 15, 2017.  He spoke to me often about this website,and the discussions folks were having and his thoughts. This site and all of you were a very important part of his life, so I want to remain connected to it.
If any of you have stories of him which you'd like to share, I'd love to read them.  Does anyone remember his famous chili recipe?
Best wishes to all of you!

Zach is legendary, and so is his chili recipe!  I remember donating to his fundraising effort for his documentary about foster children.  He was a good man to whom many people on this site looked to for information, inspiration and hope.  We miss him terribly, and his chili recipe lives on!

I printed out a copy of Zach's famous chili and will keep it always. We had many,many nights in the chat room wherein he was the bartender. Hours of fun and hours of Zach being the Kidney Guru, answering our questions on dialysis. He was so knowledgeable and so much fun. So very proud of living and working in the BIG APPLE!!! I dont think I will ever forget Zach. Thanks for your post.

I only had the privilege of dealing with Zach for 4 years, what impressed me about Zach was not just the breadth of his knowledge but the kind and thoughtful way he corrected mistakes I posted.  Zach imparted knowledge in a way that did not belittle the recipient of his experience. This is a rare trait on the internet where too many take the opportunity to belittle the person who made the mistake. If I had to choose one word to describe your brother it would be gentleman.  He as a pillar of this society and is constantly missed.

Welcome to the site, Lisa S! Your late brother Zach is still here and very much a part of this site, so many of his posts are helpful. I kid you not, was thinking of him last nite and began to re-read some of them. He contributed much. My husband was adopted and especially appreciated Zach's efforts to help foster kids find families and their "forever home". Always got a kick out of Zach using this  :wine; to sign off on some of his posts.

Here's to you and your sis, Zach!  :wine;  And p.s....your chili recipe is still making mouths water.

Hi, Lisa!  Zach was an awesome man and friend.  I didn't get to know him too well, but I have read almost all his posts on here.  He really was a kind and generous man.  He always finished his posts of with one of these bad boys!   :beer1;  We miss him here and would love to get to know you better!

Hello Lisa,
MooseMom has already mentioned how legendary Zach was and so is his Chili and there is even a vegetarian version of Chili for vegetarians like myself.
For me Zach was always a person I admired a lot, because he dealt with his ESRF in such a wonderful forward way! He looked at ESRF as something to live with and his ESRF certainly did not stop him to continue with his life as best as was possible and he even continued with his career and I certainly admired that a lot! He was always very inspiring and up-lifting and I miss him a lot! I was always looking forward to his latest news and that makes it so sad that he is no longer with us.
Many thanks for coming here and welcome to IHD and best wishes from Kristina. :grouphug;

I only shared a year or two with Zach on the forums. It was inspirational to see someone who is living good under long term dialysis.

Here is a link to that recipe which I'm not familiar with.
