For all you care-partners, spouses and SO's out there, you gotta do like that song by 38 Special says and "just hold on loosely but don't let go". Hubby's labs look good so we decided to go all out this year and chow down for Thanksgiving, complete with ham, turkey, mashed taters and pumpkin pie topped with Cool Whip. All of it. We ate and we ate. Loved every bite. Of course we knew he'd probably end up paying for it but we ate anyways.
I was nervous at first because we've been very good about sticking with his renal diet. We know what he should and should not eat. We know the consequences. But I've (gladly and finally) reached the point to just hold on loosely. I am learning to loosen up a little so he can breathe and decide what is best for himself. If I constantly worry then he constantly worries. And he already has too much to worry about. If I fret over every little thing that may harm him or happen, he frets and he already has too much to fret about. Stress is a killer, I assure you. So I am learning to loosen up and let things slide every now and then. Let him be in the drivers seat. He needs the freedom. He already has a mother. He's a grown man and can handle things. And he does.
They took about 4 kilos off of him after Thanksgiving. Not bad for having 2 days off and then chowing down. He usually only needs about 1 or 1.5 removed and sometimes not even that. But yesterday he had to do the "big 4.0" and did okay. No crashing or anything. Came home, ran some errands and took a short nap. He's fine and so am I. Whew! An accomplishment for both of us!

You demonstrate exactly why medicine is an art, not just a science. Lovely to hear how it all works out.

Well Done!
I firmly Believe that we can still have all things, only keeping them within that 'Moderation' thing.
So we give in and enjoy a little? So What? We can make up for it a little bit over the next couple of days and still have our labs come out within range.
I have to admit, I do allow myself a couple of small rewards, or pleasures. Just not every day, and not too much at one time.
I'll be alright.
