Hello, my donor is going to Tampa general for her last rounds of testing. She will be meeting the surgion, psychological testing, a chest xray and echo gram... Assuming everything goes as planned, how quickly afterwards can a surgery date be set up? Hoping to get this done on early December as we are both school teachers and can use winter break as a recovery period. Thanks
-
They offered me and my husband a surgery date six weeks after my testing was complete. We're in Canada where these things tend to be slower.
-
I guess the real question is "how long is the donor's testing good for before it has to be redone prior to transplant" as well as "how soon to get the finances verified and the ORs booked".

Well I would hope and assume that the hospital would schedule the surgery prior to having to repeat the testing otherwise that would make no sense to have the donor testing done on the dates she is scheduled for

Robert,
I would think if everything checks out (Donor/insurance) it would be a matter of finding an open OR and coordinate with the transplant doc to get the surgery done?
-
well i guess it doesnt matter... she passed everything with flying colors until the did a spot urine test and found 90mg of protein. nothing for her to be alarmed about but they will not operate on her unless it was 30 or under. im beyond depressed, i thought this was going to be over within a month. now i have to hope that my fiance who is 110 pounds somehow gets approved. i dont know if i can do this
-
Sorry, good luck.
-
Will they retest? Why so much protein?
-
im not sure. the thing that gets me is they did a 24hr urine test about 5 weeks ago before they even scheduled her for her final tests, why in the world wouldnt they check for protein then instead of waiting until the ABSOLUTE last test? is there any way for her to lower it to the required 30?
-
Sorry. It will come. :grouphug;
-
Robert...that is a question that you should ask your transplant coordinator :)
-
I am so sorry, Robert! I hope your fiancé is a match!
-
She is a match we know that already.. But now I'm worried about the testing since the first match didn't pass and we thought without a doubt she would... Does anyone know if they take size into account? Fiance is probably 115lbs and I am almost 220lb... Will that be OK?
-
I feel your pain, my donor is being worked up for an 'incidentaloma' that was found on the CT scan done during donor eval. Otherwise she'd be great a great match, I'm hoping for her sake it's a big fat nothing. I do know that when I told the transplant surgeon that he was gonna love my donor as she's skinny (and I'm not) and he asked how TALL she was. When I told him she's tall, like me, he said that would be fine; seemed like tall and skinny is fine; short and skinny probably not. Don't know if that helps your situation.

Well, here we go again.. Fiance got the call today that her urine and blood tests show that her kidneys are in great shape and she is now scheduled to go to Tampa for final testing Dec 18th.. Praying that this is one.. I will owe her for the rest of my life :bow;

Let's hope for the best! We're in Oklahoma City tonight....Chicago tomorrow night!!
-
Good luck on this round.
