Title: Sinuses Stirred Up
Post by: Charlie B53 on September 18, 2017, 05:41:03 PM

Taking a late afternoon nap and woke up sneezing.  Like multiple gunshots.  All dry.  That nap is over.  Almost two hours already. Almost like the sneezes are on a very short timer.  Got to be seasonal allergies all stirred up.  It's been so dry the grass is mostly brown again, and just now I began hearing faint thunder. Look outside and it is raining lightly.  That won't last long. Weather is supposed to get hot and dry again all this week.  It would take about a week straight rain at this rate to barely begin to close the huge cracks in the yards.  This red clay dries and shrinks so bad you would need a mirror on a bright day to see very far down them.  No flashlight will send a beam near far enough down.

I better go look into the tea cabinet, see what I can find that might help these sinus'.  Qwap, that's just more fluid I shouldn't have much of!  I wonder where my big Ole Barrel ceramic cup is?  Even if it doesn't help, maybe 'I' will feel better!

I hear ya Charlie! My nose has been dripping so much and the sneezing just about knocks me on my arse, makes me feel like stuffing giant cottonballs up each nostril and leaving it. No...can't go in public looking like that so I take the wad of kleenex instead. Drip, drip, drip. Something is being stirred up and it's causing my nose to become raw. I use a small tube of squeeze vaseline  (the kind actually meant for lips) but instead, I use it up nostrils and around the outer edges of my nose. And when it gets real bad, I stuff a little Vic's  Vapor Rub up the nose to help breath at nite. Gee whiz, not even winter yet and already looks like we are trying out for the part to play Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer in the Christmas show this year.  :rudolph;

Sorry guys you're just too funny

   :rofl;

I hope y'all feel better soon.

Lemon juice and honey (I'm sure the potassium will leave your body through your nose  ;D )

Good luck honeys, Cas

Me too!!  I have a sinus infection AGAIN!  At this rate, I don't know what it feels like to not have a sinus headache!  Saline nasal spray does help, both with dripping and with dryness.  I can't use a sinus rinse anymore because it settles in my ears and then when I blow my nose it about blows my eardrums out!  Yuck!  My makeup won't stay on and I look hungover...  Great look for a social worker!  Ha!!

LOL  Fortunately, as a 'Guy', I don't wear make-up!

Shortly aftter I first posted the water works began.  I haven't had a runny nose in years.  I don't remember when.

I thought I might go find that old Afrin bottle that I would use , make me some Holy saline rinse.  Fouond the bottle and realized that was the one I am using for my Eucalyptus Oil for my CPAP water tank.  I got my SPAP about '04 so it must have been a very long time since I've used that bottle for saline!  Told you I haven't had a runny nose for many years!

So I refilled that bottle with Eucalyptus oil, added a couple of drops to the CPAP tank and went to bed.  The oil oder must have worked as I could sleep without dripping or sneezing.  Only I found out that I could even SMELL it!  During the night I turned from my side onto my back, and started sneezing.  Blew my nose, added more water and another couple drops of oil to the tank, lay on my side and slept soundly again.

Got up this morning and within minutes it all started again.

I need to go to WalGreens and WalMart anyway.  I may just have to buy one of the cheap saline flushes.  One with the bottle I want so I can pour it out, sterilize it and make my own flush.  The simple Reverse Osmosis water, boiled until Holy with a pinch of salt.  Simple, but effective. Most of the OTC stuff and the Dr prescribed meds have side effects.  That K.I.S.S. thing works.

This ain't gonna kill me, but I've definitely had better days.

I have been living with extreme allergies for most of my life.  When my nose starts running I am miserable.  The allergens get trapped in the mucus and then it becomes out of control sneezing and asthma are just the beginning then the drip causes a sore throat and eventually my ears get clogged.  What I have been doing for years is I take chlorpheniramine maleate in large doses. I start with 24 mg and repeat as needed.  It seems to work, usually I start taking the pills and the symptoms go away.

That med is a new word to  me, don't know a thing about it.  I shun most allergy meds, I don't react well.  Many make me feel, how to say, altered. Cloudy?

I am a creature of habit, not all good, but many suit me well.  Most things have to have their place.  So I can find them again.  I couldn't find the menthol rub.  I KNOW where it should have been, one of only two places.  Neither one.  Qwap.  I didn't want to go anywhere with a constant drip and intermittent sneezing three in a row.  Stuck a wash cloth in my pocket and went to Wal Greens.  Stinky nose now!

Since we were out we went ahead and made a few other necessary stops.  In the middle of the grocery it dawned on me.  Jewish Penicillin!  Got me a fat dead chicken, bag of onions and a pound of pasta.  Onions and dead bird are in the pressure cooker as we speak.  I will over cook it to the point I won't have to totally de-bone it, add a couple more onions and simmer a little while before adding the noodles.  If I can't smell or taste it, I will add even more garlic.  Chicken fat and enzymes are magic.  I've always said just like in the Bible.  ALL things are here for our use.

Cooking with black pepper, red pepper flakes, cumin and chili powder always clears my sinuses. Starts every morning when I make hubby his omelet.

My youngest daughter had sinus problems for years and years, turns out she had a severely deviated septum that required surgery.  The septum was deviated in the upper area.  Plus she does not have upper sinuses. Her surgeon said it was probably the worst one he had ever operated on.  It has helped her so much with her allergies to be lessened and breathing 100% better.

Sadly, very little pepper in this house any longer since we figured out it was one of the triggers of the Wife's bowel problems.

I really like Horseradish!  Sometimes just taking a huge sniff can help.  If that doesn't make enough impact a teaspoon, sucking on it and slowly letting the fumes out through my nose can.

Also sadly, none of the Oriental restaurants around here have that BBQ Pork with hot mustard and seseme seeds.  THAT will clear sinuses!

I had sinus and deviated septum surgery last October.  I can breathe better, but I am still having some infections.  My primary doc said that I have had less this year, but it doesn't feel like it!  Anyways, I am starting to feel better now.  I was worried that I might be allergic to my new cat since this started about the time I got him, but if I am feeling better now, maybe it is just the seasons changing.

Little Sister had her sinuses clear. Surgery to remove the excessive 'turbinates'? I think that is the word.  She claims she can breath much easier and has far less sinus problems since.  Her Husband had the same procedure done.  Both love the outcome.

Son needs it badly but is too scared to have it done.  Some Friend of his had it done and it didn't go well, adding to Son's fears.  He needs it  as Dr will not prescribe him a CPAP until it is done.  His sleep is terribly affected by it, snoring, etc.

It was not a fun surgery.  Pretty painful and messy.  Apparently, packing noses after deviated septum surgery is a thing of the past.  I got to free bleed... It was gross.  The sinus surgery part was not bad.  I woke up from surgery with no headache.  That was the first time in months I had not had a headache!  But the nose bleeding was terrible.  I wore a mustache bandage and my lip got so irritated from the gauze.  I tried to sleep without the bandage and woke up looking like I had been in a horror movie.  It is hard to eat after surgery, too.  But it was worth it, even if I am still getting infections.  I can breathe better and don't feel dried out in the morning from breathing through my mouth.  My sinuses drain better and I have more energy.

That's interesting. I knew someone who discovered that the roots of their upper wisdom teeth were interfering with their sinuses. After the teeth were removed their nose didn't run anymore and they were able to breath better.

My mother had congestive heart failure and was only allowed to take chlorpheniramine maleate because it didn't contain a decongestant, only an anti-histamine. She'd buy Chlor-tabs from Walmart. I keep telling my husband that is what he should try since he's not suppose to take anything with a decongestant in it. If I am correct, I saw on another thread that you mentioned also taking Montelukast (Singulair). That is what I take to help control allergies and asthma. Personal question and you don't have to answer, but was it your primary doc or your neph that approved the Montelukast? I am wondering who my husband should ask if he is interested in giving it a try for his allergies. Of course everything has to be ran by the neph but don't know if she would be the one to prescribe it to him.
