Post by: mark j on April 18, 2007, 03:05:46 PM
I'mcurious as to what type of scales you are using to weigh yourselfs.  I bought one that I'm not crazy about ( the other night after a 3 hour treatment my sscalesaid that i put on PUT ON .4 kg)  I know that I could spend 3-400 dollars on one but what are you guys using?   Thanks

I use a pretty cheap set of scales I got at Aldi. Now I know they are about 1kg out from coming straight from the hospital and on to my scales and over a few months I have determined what the approx differance is between my scales and the hospital. As long as I know that it's easy to work out appoximately how much I've put on. I put a conservative figure on it so that usually when I weigh in I am around or a little less than I thought I would be. I like them as they have big digital numbers I can easily read even after a few shots of vodka :)

Hi, Mark, mine is a Health-o-meter, came with my first Baxter order so I do not know the cost.   :-\

ha!! Yeah I know that feeling! That's why I monitor myself at home with my dodgy
cheap scales so get a rough idea of where I'm at. I think I have it pretty accurate
now so i can figure out what I can drink or not to keep myself around the 2 kilo
over mark when the next session comes around.

I've given up on having a scale at home.  I just monitor my fluid intake and from that I know how much I've gained between dialysis.

:rofl;    I have the Health-o-Meter from Baxter.  It's way light and I dread stepping on the one at the center.  At least it's in kilos and I'm not good at conversions.  Kidney failure has apparently taken my ability to do math.

Well, if i dont watch out, pretty soon i am going to have to be taken to the friggin' truck stop to get myself weighed gosh dammit, :P  but i too have one of the Health o' Meter's from Baxter which is probably about $30.00 (i am guessing) at your local WalMart, and a lying piece of crap it is indeed  8)

I think this is a good technique if you no longer have output.  With the help of my clinic, my insurance company paid for a Seca 703 scale which was around $400.

We got rid of the "Baxter scale" and bought a weight watcher scale. The WW scale seems to be more accurate then he Baxter one.  It seems to be  pretty accurate for my husband, but does lie about me.  doing dialysis at home he trys to weigh wearing the same clothing/shoes each time.   Amazed you were able to get insurance to pay for a $400 scale :).  Guess they should since they are not paying technicians/nurses to do the treatment the home dialysis partner is doing for free.
