Title: usisng Fresenius K machine instead of nxstage
Post by: fuzzyL on July 05, 2017, 10:33:23 PM
on home hemo for almost five years using nxstage machine but having problem after problem with them--we are on our 4th cycler machine in 2017-we are told that they don't make new ones of the type we use and we are constantly getting rebuilds-beside the pain in the butt this causes, it also makes me nervous as the patient that the machine will fail during a session-so my Fresenius clinic is suggesting their K machine for many reasons-I looke it up online and it is appealing--just wonder if any home hemo people on line use it??  thank you

We started out on the K machine....it's really a heavy maintenance machine....lots of glitches during and between treatments.  Plus, it requires modified plumbing in your home, along with a dedicated breaker in your electric box.  It's really not meant for home use, although some in our clinic do use it.  I'm quite ok with the ease of NxStage...even tho we've had to replace the pure flow 3 times.....freaked me out the 1st time, but it's not hard to change out.....just heavy, that's all!

NxStage failure during a session is no big deal... Just be sure you are famiiar with the manual squeezback procedure (if you have never done it, ask your RN to stop by so you can get checked out on the procedure).  I had a NxStage faile once (error code 502 during prime) at 6PM on Saturday evening.  NxStage had the replacement to me Sunday afternoon.
