Yes Epoman it does look like you are the only one in a wheel chair on this site, I do not understand why :-\, because at my times when I am on in the morning.  There must be at least 8 patients in wheelchairs. So they are out there somewhere!!

I think you know my story about nearly being put in a wheelchair.  I refused to go in it. Took me over 4 years to walk without sticks.

I am the wife of a (i hope) temporary wheel chair guy.  We finally got the handicapped sticker. The doc would only give us one for three months! Can you believe.  My hubby loses part of a limb and can only get three months of handicapped sticker.  Oh if you need more I will give you more time the doctor said.  Ahh shit!  That means I will have to back to the DMV and get another sticker for six bucks.  Sucks big time!  I hate the DMV.  Their system sucks!
Anyway the wheel chair is fairly light, but sometimes after having hauled it in and out of the car four times I am beat and just want the damned thing to weigh less. Besides some places are hard to get into and out of with a chair.

Me too!  I got one from my great grandmother when she needed a larger chair.  She's since passe away (she was 101).  Fortunately I don't need it all the time but it's nice to have for those days when I just don't have the energy to walk a lot.  I have a story that happened this past summer at a concert at a local fair that I will start a new thread to tell it.  I do try to walk when I can.  I have a disabled parking placard and it's permanent.

One thing that bothers me abt going to the mall with my wheelchair is that people don't move out of the way.  Even if they are clearly on the wrong side of the walkway, they refuse to move.  Or they block the way and even though they see you, they just stand there.

Oh man, hubby and I went to see Kid Rock at the Puyallup Fair in Puyallup, WA last summer.  We purchased tickets in the wheelchair section on the floor which put us relatively close to the stage.  The only time we've ever spent the money to be that close to the stage and we were supposed to be on the aisle in the center.  We get there and there are people in our seats and neither of them is in a wheelchair.  So, John goes and gets someone and they try and put us on the other side of the row and John refused.  By this time the opening act has started playing so John puts me next to the last chair in the row and takes a chair and sits next to me.  We are now blocking most of the aisle.  Finally someone else comes and tells the other people they have to move over because they need to add two more spots.  The chairs are all folding so they can add and subtract chairs.  The guy who was in out seat starts ranting abt he's gonna call the ADA police and all kinds of other nonsense because we made him move out of our seats.  This guy was already drunk too.  John talked to the staff and they said that there is no way they can make sure people are actually in a wheelchair.  Now, I get that they don't wanna violate anyone's rights and all that but this is ridiculous. But  neither one them was disabled.

But anyway it gets better.  Karma has a way of evening things up in the end.  After the opening band finished and before Kid Rock came out the guy left, probably to get more beer, and never came back.  The chick he was with spent the whole time looking around for him.  Kid Rock was on for like 2 hours and that guy never came back.  It was awesome too, Run from Run DMC was there and everything.  They did some Run DMC songs and it was great.

So, as we're leaving we see him in police custody.  He had gotten thrown out for being drunk and disorderly!  He totally missed Kid Rock!  I laughed the whole way home and for weeks afterward!

My sister had a friend who had an electric wheelchair and she used to run people over in their high school.  I didn't understand why she did that until I had to deal with it first hand.  If I had to use it all the time, mine would be electric.

Whoa Epoman I am a fellow sufferer,,, my wheelchair is my friend and my enemy I have a love hate thing going with it.  My walls are  scratched and scared from the wheels rubbing against them and I run over my own toe all the time with the damn thing.  I  find rolled up socks left on the floor a major obstacle not to mention dog toys :P  The bathroom doors are to narrow for the wheel chair and I absolutely have to wear my fake leg to go to the bathroom....which is a major pain in the butt in the middle of the night.  I've been in the wheelchair off and on for 10 years since I had a car accident that broke both my legs and then I got an ulcer on my foot which wouldn't heal and finally lost it to gangrene.  I am now learning how to walk on my fake leg but it's been a slow and arduous journey and I've been fighting with my wheelchair every wheel turn of the way .... LOL   So don't feel lonely if sharing your misery makes you happy .... cheer up... I am with ya .... happy wheeling ..... Melinoir

Hey AnMarie. My hubby uses a wheelchair due to amputation below the knee. He mainly uses it in the house areas when he has his artificial leg off.
