Anyone who's friends with me on Facebook knows that I've been talking about going back to school for a few years now. I was waiting for the new shift in dialysis to start before I did anything, just because there's no way I could go to school and do dialysis 3 days a week. The schedules just didn't jive. My evening shifts started in September, and I applied for school in October. I got an email yesterday from the Admissions Dept. I've been accepted and I start at Holland College in the Tourism and Travel Management program in September!
Now, I need to find the money for the tuition...

Congratulations! That should be a good experience. Good luck.

Could have used you when I was talking the Politics and the Media class last winter.. was a 4 month class, and there were eight essays that needed to be written to get a grade.. I only wrote 7.. I'm thankful that I took the class for fun and not for credit...
I took this particular course back in 1999, but only took the first year. From what I remember, there wasn't a lot of written essay paper type things.. it was more along the lines of speaking projects, tour planning, sales pitches.. I do remember writing a travel guide/magazine type paper on a luxury hotel.. it had to have pictures and descriptions and things of that nature.. I plagiarized their website big time.. *L*
I will keep you in mind, though.. in case their format has changed since then..

Perhaps there is a future for you at a travel dialysis company. Congrats and good luck.

My plan is to start my own.. *G* In my experience, it's a niche that is mostly ignored, not just dialysis, but those with special needs as well. Most of us, when we want to travel, it's like shooting in the dark, we've no idea which direction to go. It takes a lot of trial and error to figure out what's needed and what's not. If it had been available, I would have paid someone to help me navigate it all, heck, I still would. I still have a lot of uncharted waters to get through, and I have no choice but to do it on my own. it's hard sometimes to find hotels and other tourist attractions that will accommodate you if you have other issues besides dialysis.

Excellent. A lot of properties will be accommodating to persons with disability, waive package surcharges, etc. but you need to have a bit of savvy to navigate the system. You can probably find places that will let you set up all the details and act as the agent so the customer doesn't get gouged. The trick will be putting together cost effective packages where the disabled person is not paying a huge premium for the service you offer.
The only place I know of that does this sort of thing is "Dialysis at Sea" - but they insist on hammering the passenger's wallet at both ends. Not only do you pay full retail for dialysis, CIA (cash in advance), but you are locked out of any cruise special deals and have to buy your cruise from Dialysis at Sea at full rack rate - so you might pak $3K for a cruise you could otherwise get for $2K - plus have the burden of paying for treatment.

I could totally be a professional student, if I had the money.

The school has a small mock travel agency. You can do anything except book travel. I would LOVE to have access to it right now, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to Atlanta in August
