Title: my graft
Post by: pdpatty on August 15, 2016, 07:33:50 AM
My fistula finally quit after almost 10 years. Had to have a graft placed in left upper arm.  The dr who placed it put it far too deep so it could not be used.

Different surgeon put in another one about 3 weeks ago.  On Man last week ,they used 1 needle, graft worked fine. Then last Wed ,they tried 2 needles. She hooked me up,pressures were fine ,but then I got killer pain in area where graft is connected to first graft. This is the front of sholder.  A huge bubble popped up. My arm is twice normal size ,even my hand is turning blaqck&blue. Left breast is completely purpleish blue and swollen with blood.

The tech and I believe I have a leak in graft connection bt the neph says I was infiltrated. Think he is wrong.

Has this EVER happened to anyone >

Jeeez that sounds terrible. Sorry that happened to you. No that has never happened to me.
If it's getting worse (the swelling) I'd go to hosp and try get a vasc surgeon to see you.

Love, luck and strength, Cas

I second what Cassandra said. My husband once had a bubble pop up near his needle sight on his fistula and it burst open. Fortunately he was already in the hospital (for an infection). He lost a lot of blood and had to have emergency surgery and a transfusion. Hours earlier a vascular surgeon at the hospital had looked at the bubble and said it needed to be cut out and sewn up. The surgeon scheduled the surgery for the next morning but it ended up bursting in the middle of the night. The surgeon saved his fistula but did end up having to cut and tie off the end where the bubble was.
