I'm new here...I've been on dialysis for about 11 months, the last 3 of which have been at home (using NxStage). My kidneys failed because of long-term use of Avastin, a targeted cancer therapy. Avastin is a wonderful drug but it causes kidney damage in about 4% of users. I've been living with stage IV colon cancer for 7-1/2 years, and stage III 5 years before that (diagnosed at age 40). I used to think I'd rather be dead that be on dialysis but once I started dialyzing I felt so much better that I changed my way of thinking. I'm grateful so many of you are sharing your wisdom and experience on this message board.

Welcome to IHD. It sounds like you're a pro and have had many challenges to meet. I hope dialysis continues being a positive experience for you. I'm still debating with myself about the "I'd rather be dead" part. This is a great place to be for a peer to peer point of view. Best to you. K&S

This is a great place to share experiences, ask your own and answer others' questions, and get positive and strong support. I do a ton of 'listening' and soaking up information. :welcomesign;

Welcome to IHD. I have to admit, my being needle-phobic and all, that you being still so new to dialysis and on the Nxstage at home I am impressed. It takes a lot of determination that I'm not so sure that I have to do that. You are setting a fine example for many to come. Keep it up.
Take Care,
