My journey so far on dialysis is more than 34 yrs. It is strange how I faintly remember as if it was a short while ago. If someone asks how old I am all I could remember "34 yrs".
The journey is short for some of us, a bit longer for others. All pending on the missions that need to be accomplished.
I thought this song- for moment- evokes my thought in general.
I close my eyes only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Now, don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, and all your money won't another minute buy
---Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind---

You "long termers" help to inspire people like my husband (the patient) and I (the care partner). We are only in our third year. Some days really suck. Other days, not so bad. It's still hard but gotten a little easier...don't know if I will EVER get to be the one in-charge of the TV remote!
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work".
-Thomas Edison
"Against the wind. I'm still runnin' against the wind. I'm older now but still running against the wind".

June 7, 2017 will be 30 years with renal failure. I did have a break of 17 years with a transplant but that just is another form of renal therapy. Yes, just a little boat bobbing in the ocean of life.

I must agree with Prime Timer. I applaud and admire you "long timers" :clap; :clap;
I have been 13 months ... a blink of the eye compared to many of you. Yet I often wonder what life was like before dialysis.
I just moved back closer to my son and grandchildren and it is strange to watch him adjust to the schedule we must keep and The "no I can't do something right now cause I am "hooked up"."

My three years on PD doesn't even begin to count against the years so many of you have endured Hemo.
I can wait. Hopefully a very long time.

I have been thinking about lives of some missionaries Martyrs, one that touched me deeply and at such tender age of 28 yrs., St. Jean Louis Bonnard martyred May 1st 1852.
A poem from Victor Hugo dedicated to St. Jean-Louis Bonnard
« Ô saint prêtre ! grande âme ! oh! je tombe à genoux !
Jeune, il avait encor de longs jours parmi nous ;
Il n'en a pas compté le nombre ;
Il était à cet âge où le bonheur fleurit ;
Dont l'âme est couverte de voiles ;
Puis il s'en est allé dans les vents, dans les flots,
Vers les noirs chevalets et les sanglants billots,
Les yeux fixés sur les étoiles. »
