Per our signature below, we were approved for Living Donor Program and added to the National Kidney Registry in November. The process of a match is a big puzzle since my wife is O and I am A positive. Both antigens levels are easy to match up but the O is considered "unfavorable". We are told everyday there are changes in the list and its very very dynamic. Chains are started and broken. The NKR is growing every year as the living donor programs are growing, but not as fast as ESRD.
On February 8th we were given several odds with the big one being 98% chance of a match in 32 days. On March 1 inquired back as I had not heard anything. I was then given updated odds of 98% within 60 days for a transplant.
Overall, the average waiting time is 5 months just to just find a match. That time frame would put us in the late April time frame. Our HHD is going great, but we want to get the transplant done as we all know that is a major change. With the caregiver and patient both in their 60s time is of the essence.
Anyone have similar experiences with the National Kidney Register? They appear to be a very professional organization.
