Title: CCHT-This is Rob
Post by: azrob1978 on April 07, 2007, 01:49:26 PM
Hello everyone,
My name is Rob, and Ive been a tech for 2 yrs. Before coming to work at my clinic I was a Navy Hospital corpsman for 5 yrs, and worked as a Phleb/Lab manager/Medical assistant for about a year. I understand the need for this site very much. I came here to get some insight on the patient experience because the patients at my clinic range from passive to very aggressive. And I want to understand more to become better in my chosen field. As for my fellow techs, I cant speak at all for their personal experiences. I am here for my own knowledge and understanding. So, thats about it. I'll add more here probably, but if you have questions, don't hesitate.
Best wishes,
Rob in AZ, CCHT :thumbup;

Hi Rob,  Welcome to ihatedialysis.com.  Thank you so much for joining us, we always appreciate when someone comes looking for answers to help them understand their patients better.  I am sure you will get alot of feedback here, there are many posts here that may help you understand more or less what we, the patients, approve and disapprove, want and dont want and so on and so on.  We understand your job is not easy, but please understand, being on dialysis is no walk in the park either ;)  Looking forward to hearing more from you.  If there is anything in particular you are looking for and cannot find, please do not hesitate to ask and anyone of us would be more than happy to help you any way we can.  and Welcome again ;)   :2thumbsup;

I wish my avatar could be more personal, but I'm on the corporate leash. And my 2 pups have expensive taste when it come to dog food.  :D I really enjoy dialysis because it is so specialized and I LOVE new things. I want to be more involved and keep learning, but the apathy and restrictions on what I can "legally" really bring me down. I have more experience in more fields than the 2 RNs I "work" with but my opinion is usually ignored or thrown out the door. So, please, help me help you. Though my patients are unaware, they will reap the benefits.

Hey Rob,

Even some of the good ones are allowed to grace the screen here at IHD, so welcome. Glad to see you take an active interest in the dialysis community.
Please review all the articles of interest and feel free to post as often as you like.

Welcome Arizona Rob, glad to have you join the community!  This site is like a good novel, once you start it, it is hard to put down...   Enjoy the reading and you are also allowed to add your   :twocents;  .  We don't bite but can be quite straightforward.   Too bad your work commrades do not respect your knowledge and experience, maybe if you give them time to prove yourself in their eyes?  Maybe it is because you are in their territory that they homesteaded first?  Maybe they will just never  get   it...  Whatever the case, learning all you can to help the  patients  will endear you to  them , and aren't the patients the most important ones anyway??!!!   Hope that your unit is not as institutional as so many have turned today~  all professional and no personal touches...Patients spend way too much time in the unit to be treated like they are just another  faceless, voiceless case .  Thanks for caring!   :2thumbsup;

Welcome to our community, Rob.  The vision of our founder is that this would be a place where everyone who has any connection to the challenge of renal failure (or even no connection at all) would be free to come and interact.  That is why it is a pleasure when those who work in the field show enough interest and concern to join us, to make their work more meaningful.   since this is a no-holds-barred site, it can be hot at times, but even the workers can get their own back by venting in the section specially created for them - Dialysis: Employees.  I must say that this community has developed into a real family, and that is not just hype.
So continue to read and continue to post.  We even have an Off-topic section that has nothing whatsoever to do with dialysis.  That is the kind of comprehensive site that has been developed here.

 :2thumbsup; Hello there Rob and I am so happy to see you joined us.  I tell all the techs at my center about my online support group and IHD and their eyes just glaze over.  I would hope that they would show more interest in their work and what they are doing but sometimes I wonder if it is just a job to them.  It gives me hope to see you here :grouphug;!!!

Hugs,
Earlinda

Hello Rob and welcome to IHD.  I would say the positive patients are usually NEW.  I just love to watch the newbees.  They are just HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY to be alive.  They bring treats to the staff!  Then they get a few bad sticks under their belt and a few hours waiting for a chair and they tend to get on the aggressive side.  The quiet ones that don't talk to you have been doing this for a very long time.
