Title: NxStage Filtr question
Post by: WillieWundt on January 20, 2016, 12:23:47 PM
For the second time during treatment, I noted a collection of a white puffy substance in the top of the Nxstage filter. I thought it looked like some of the filter material was breaking down and collecting in the top of the filter. When I called Nxstage they said it was probably a biologic but did not indicate what it might be. Has anyone else ever had this happen to a Nxstage filter? And does anyone have any suggestions about what might be happening?

We use NxStage and haven't had that happen. Google search "white thrombus" or get on the internet and type in the question "what is the white stuff in my blood tube?" and read what some of the dialysis nurses say on the website "allnurses". Might have something to do with triglycerides. Either way, bring it up with your Neph or nurse and if possible, maybe save the dialyzer filter and show it to them so they can see what you're talking about. Years ago, before my husband started dialysis, he said he had some strange looking "white bits" show up inside a test tube when they did a blood draw and he was told he had a high triglyceride level. Good luck to you. Hope you will come back and post to let us know what you find out.

I also use NXStage and have never seen that happen.

Probably would freak me out.  When we first started and the dializor showed the least little bit of clotting we would take a picture and send it to our nurse. Lucky for us she was patient enough too ease our fears without telling us we were being anal about it.

Is sending a picture to the clinic an option? I would be talking to her about something like that ASAP.

God Luck
