Title: YEAH!!! I start home hemo on April 23rd.
Post by: ILOVEFLUID on April 06, 2007, 05:14:30 AM
I have been waiting for a year and a half to start home hemo and I finally got the call yesterday.  I have to go to Toronto for 5 weeks of training.  My fiance is coming with me to learn as well.  We are going to spend some nights in a hotel and other nights staying with friends.  It will be somewhat like a mini vacation.  Of course, we will come home on the weekends as i could never be away from my dogs for that long.  Luckily my mother, who is a fabulous doggie grandma will be staying with them during the week.  I am a little worried about needling myself but i want this so bad that i am sure i will be able to do it.   I am so glad i will be getting away from  my nasty doctors and actually have more control and say over my health.   :clap; :clap; :clap; :clap; :clap;

If anyone has any tips or advice about home hemo i would love to hear them.

Update:
I am doing much better.  They have taken 20 lbs of fluid off me in 3 weeks.  And they say there is much more to come.  And to think that my old center said I was just gaining flesh weight!!!! :banghead;  I am using a cane to walk now but find my walking is getting much better.  On my days off from training, I spend a lot of time walking around the city and it is getting easier and easier.  Training is going very well....3 weeks more and I will be at home with my machine!!!  Murray is amazing, he has already cannulated me 4 times and is doing a great job.  I am still very tired but will be getting the CPAP machine when i get home.  I find myself looking forward to the future more and making plans.  All in all things are looking up.

Training on NxStage ? I have been on it since November and love it. It's a shock when your first load of supplies arrive. Ours came via 18 wheeler - the driver set it on the curb (a pallet) and was about to leave - on the invoice it states - Delivery Inside - so he did help by moving it close to our steps. I made copies of the alarm page for quick reference. If you are training on NxStage they probably will train you on the pureflow - and the bags. You'll do fine. The documentation is great. Hope your training goes well........  enjoy

ILoveFluid and Charee,  so glad to hear it, sorry you have to do all the traveling and such but it will be so well worth it.  :2thumbsup;  ILF,  dont worry about needling yourself, just keep reminding yourself you are in control now, i too, used to be afraid of needles, now i think it is cool that i can give myself Epo shots.  When i have kids around i always involve them in it, and to see the looks of amazement on their faces is priceless.   ::)  No worries my friend, you are going to do good  :cuddle;
