I saw the top topic on here and it stated keep your catheter dry. With a PD catheter, are you not suppose to take a shower?
I've been on PD a couple of months and take a shower everyday.

I am not sure it is for PD patients tbh, when mine was fitted i was told 'showers' only ,'no'baths.

Hi Rimbo,
I've been a PD patient for 3 1/2 years now and I also shower daily. I think the top topic you mentioned is referring to those people with central venous lines in their shoulders and not PD patients. The advice I was given by my PD nurse is to be sure and do your daily catheter care after showering or swimming. I don't do much swimming but thank heavens showers are okay for us!

:2thumbsup;
Thank goodness, I thought I was in big trouble. I thought my dialysis center told me no baths, that I could on take showers. Then i read the top and since it didn't mention what type, thought holy cow I'm doing something wrong!!

Nope, you're fine. No baths or hot tubs. Swimming is okay in chlorinated pools or the ocean (I guess because of the levels of salt?) but not in rivers or lakes, etc. Maybe someone else knows about the ocean thing because sometimes I'm not too sure about the cleanliness there either. If I swim, and it's not often, I keep to pools and then only in ones where I don't see babies in the water. I'm just not trustfull enough of those baby swim diapers!

I am on PD and the only time i was told NOT to shower was while my tube was healing, now, i shower daily. I was told Swimming was fine ONLY in Private Pools. Was told to stay out water that i could not see the bottom (cuz they were dirty i guess) :P (But there are still some that insists on swimming in the beach and i havent heard them complain) ;) When i do shower, i do not cover my site with anything but once i get out of the pool i make sure to shower and wash my site with antibacterial soap. Hope this helps ;)
