Here we are at the hospital waiting for Frank's new kidney to get here. They told us that the donor tested positive for Epstein Barr and CMV. They say it's not really a problem that alit if people carry these viruses, but I'm freaking out. Anybody know anything about this?

Congratulations! I can't wait to hear all's well after surgery. :yahoo;
It sounds like about 80% of adults test positive for CMV, so if Frank already tests positive, it's a wash / doesn't matter. Possible issues come in if Frank tested negative for CMV. It'll mean he needs to be on an anti-viral medication for much longer, and he's at greater risk for experiencing effects of the CMV himself. I know some here have ended up with CMV post-transplant and they got pretty sick from it. They told me during my transplant evaluation that I tested negative. Luckily, so did my donor.
I don't know anything about Epstein Barr. I don't remember them ever telling me that either the donor nor I were tested for it.

Good luck. I hope it all works out. Try to let the stress from the wait go.

Any news?

The surgery went well and the kudney worked right out of the gate. Frank's home now. We just had his first clinic today. His Creatinine is 1.1! He looks and feels 100% better already. His incision is draining alot if what looks like water, which they tell us is normal. All in all, so far so good!
