Title: My Book was accepted for Publication
Post by: Whamo on June 18, 2015, 08:54:46 AM
My book "My Disney Side" was accepted for publication by bootlicker.com.  It should be out in about a month.  It tells the story of my two childhoods at Disneyland.  One starting opening day 1955, and the second one about five years ago.  It isn't easy writing on dialysis so I'm stoked I was able to do it.

 :clap;  Thanks, I thought I'd give you an update.  My publisher backed out on me because she was afraid of a lawsuit.  I thought I'd rewrite it
to avoid the problem, but checked out another publisher for feedback.  My new publisher has published 90 books about Disneyland.  He said
he'd never had any problems with Disney legal and wanted to read my book.  I sent it to him two weeks ago.  I figured he'd passed on it.  I emailed him
asking for feedback for a rewrite.  He said he wanted the book and sent me an agreement on profits, etc.  This was a big step upward for me.  My first publisher
was a self-publisher.  I paid $500 up front for the cover and page formatting and such.  The new publisher charges nothing, and I get 50% of the profits.
He advertises Disney books on the back of his other disney books.  He advertises on Amazon.  He knows the marketing end.  I know nada.
Now I can focus on my next project.  I've been preparing to write a screenplay about Captain Cook's last voyage (he goes insane before Hawaiians eat him)s or
a tribute to my dead surfing friends.  It's hard to have any kind of life when you're on the machine 10 1/2 hours a day, 7 days a week, but I respect the hell
out of myself for getting this done.  After I get off dialysis my brain is in a fog for hours.  It can be frustrating.

Congratulations on two counts. First for persevering through the effort! That says so much.  :2thumbsup;

Secondly for finding the right publisher. Best wishes for selling lots of copies!

Congratulations on moving from the world of vanity publishing to mainstream publishing.   This is not exactly a small accomplishment.

Getting a book published in this competitive world is a big deal.  Congrats!
It is when you get a publisher to pick it up.

There have been vanity presses for ages (where you pay for the printing, and sell the book yourself), and internet has ushered in the era of "print on demand" publication when a copy is printed when a buyer is found.

So, there are lots of people calling themselves "authors", but only a minority who actually get a "real publisher".

My congratulations.

Congrats! I just ordered a copy. I look forward to reading it and sharing it with a friend who is a total Disneyland-ophile. She gets two weeks of vacation a year and goes there every year.   :clap;

Please leave reviews on Amazon once you read the book. Last time I checked there were no reviews and they are needed to help sell the book.

Thanks to everyone who read my book.  I'm unhappy with my writing.  I could have done a better job on it.   I'll do better next time.

I'm really unhappy with my progress on my latest project, Captain Cook.  King Richard donated farm animals a and livestock to Cook so he could convince cannibals to change their dietary habits.
Eventually the islanders always turned on Cook because he was a mean exploitive bastard.  Cook did realize he was going to destroy a whole race of people with sexually transmitted disease and
felt guilty about it.  I think I can sell a screenplay about this story if I can nail it down, but it won't be easy.
