Title: Spring? Where are you?
Post by: Riki on March 15, 2015, 07:11:42 PM
Anybody want some snow?  Our front door is blocked with about 3 feet worth.  We can't use that door.  AND, it's still coming.  I'm getting a little tired of this stuff.

Renalwife, I certainly hope it wasn't 93 C in San Diego. 100C is the temperature water boils at! I'm assuming you meant 93F?

Here in the Washington DC area it feels like spring is here, expect for the 30-40* weather coming up mid week.  Today its as high as 67*!

Cross posting this from the "new to the group" thread - My wife and I did a short seven mile group ride for Pie day yesterday (it was delayed a day due to rain) and ate a ton of pie at the four pie stations.  The chocolate caramel pie was the hit, but everything was good, multiple apple pies, coconut pie, chees pie, winter berry etc... (We split pieces but we were still too full to nap afterwards.)  Spring was peaking out and it was comfortable in the sun.

Yet again I felt very thankful that with dialysis as my only current issue I've not yet been required to give up my actives - beyond those we gave up on M, W, and F when I'm in dialysis in the evening...

Beautiful weekend here in Chicago.  The snow has finally almost fully melted except for the parking lot mountains which should be gone by EOD today.  Husband ran his first 5K of the 2015 season.  I just enjoyed having the windows open and not wearing a jacket while running errands.

75 is the projected high today .... tomorrow it will be 47.  That's the joy of living in Chicago...if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute.   :rofl;

I guess that the Maritime provinces did something to tick off the weather gods this year.  I'm hoping this snow melts away by at least June

If it makes you feel better there is a place in the Adirondacks called the tug hill plateau which has had 21 feet of snow this winter.  Strangely mostly lake effect snow.  Every one hears about Buffaloe but the tug hill area makes Buffaloe seem like a tropical paradise.

Yeah, could you have it shipped to California? The Sierra snowpack could use a boost.

Personally, I would be happy to defer Spring for a little rain. Yesterday, we enjoyed some fine beach weather at a beach not known for its beach weather--usually freezing cold in the middle of summer. It was fun, of course, but also kind of scary.

Yesterday and today here in mid-Missouri the temp has been trying hard to hit 80.  Very close, 79.

The snow is gone, only a little light rain almost a week ago, so all the leaves I didn't get to last Fall are dry enough I started lanscaping with my lighter along the ditches where leaves accumulate so much.  I don't rake.  Light them off and stand back.  Of course there was only the gentlest of breeses so the woods next door was safe.

Another day or two and I will get my mower out with the vacuum and clear the leaves from the front acre, then the side.  The grass is already beginning to turn green.  It isn't high enough to cut, so it will be mostly all leaves.  I layer the garden a few inches.  When the clay begins to dry out enough I'll take the mower deck off and put the tiller on.  Stir those leaves in as I till the soil.  It provides a lot of nateral fertilizer for the next year, maybe more.  And it feeds the worms well.  Souldn't be any problem growing 35 lb melons again this year.

A Pie Day sounds wonderful!!!!  Nothing like that happens here.  We lead pretty boring lives here in the middle of now-where.

I saw a graph today that says we've gotten 460cms of snow this winter.. that's about 15ft.. and that's all since about the 25th of January.. we got 50cms on Sunday alone.. that's a little less than 2ft.. and it was blowing around, which makes it worse.. you shovel, and where you shoveled just fills back in again.. I have mobility issues, so my mom tries to clear the snow enough that I can get out, but it's not easy... plus, I'm heading into my 4th day without my "regeneration cycle" and I'm getting a little twitchy...

... Still waiting for a bit of sunshine and for the weather to become a bit milder ...
... and still dressed when outside in my warmest winter coat and a huge shawl
and wearing my gloves and my warmest Babushka-hat...
I do hope that spring arrives soon...

From my prior post I told you how beautiful it has been for the last three days here in Mid-Missouri,  Well, that's over.  High of 50 today and windy enough it felt a LOT colder, cutting through me and chilling me to the bone!

Come on Spring, PLEASE!!!

Del, one of the nurses in D today said that she thinks we should declare the Atlantic provinces inhabitable and we all move.  At this point, it doesn't seem like that bad an idea

I think Mother Nature needs a friggin intervention.  This is getting a little ridiculous.

Sunday afternoon wasn't too bad (in the sun) but today it's been pretty chilly. misty, uninspiring ... I have started to dream of Italian beaches ....
The clocks go back this coming weekend which is supposed to be the official start of spring...  :ukflag;

We put our clocks back a couple of weeks ago.. *G*  There's still about 10 feet of snow on our front lawn... some of the roads look like canyons, and they are one lane only.. it's crazy... I saw a pic on facebook the other day... said that there was a polar shift, and the Maritimes were now the new North Pole... I'm starting to wonder if that isn't true...

The clocks went forward Saturday night (still trying to catch up my sleep) but it is bright and sunny (but blowing a gale and freezing!!!)
Think I might stay indoors this morning..

What part of the world are you in?  Is everyone worried about flooding when the snow melts?
Title: Re: Spring? Where are you?
Post by: Riki on April 07, 2015, 01:36:47 AM
I'm on the east coast of Canada... it's melted down to about 4 ft drifts, instead of the 10.. but the snow is a solid mass.. there's no getting through it with a shovel... as for flooding, I don't think it'll be a problem unless it all melts at once, which I don't see happening..  We still have sub zero temperatures.. which really sucks for April... so even though the ground isn't frozen anymore, and the sun is out more, it's still too cold for the snow to melt, especially in places where it's drifted..

The last 2 days in the UK have been warm and sunny, yay! Only for this week tho, we won't get too excited (but that's ok as I'm off to Barcelona next week and it's forecast nice there!)

We had a lot of rain yesterday, when brought the snow down enough that we can see the garbage bin that's been buried since January.. Mom still can't get it out, though... It's supposed to be warmer through the week, so I'm hoping that will help with melting and drying..

A lot of sunshine this way.
The garden is growing madly  :flower; :flower; :flower;
and we actually could do with a spot of rain as getting very dry (sorry)  :o

I feel heaps better when the sun shines.

Back down below 40* F here in DC, but nice clear Sunny day and might get back into the 60*.  I'm appreciative that we missed all that snow you more northerly people received.

Gentle spring rain today, which is a relief to both clear the dust and pollen from the air and water the garden! :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;

I'm still waiting for the warm temperatures to show up.  I told a friend on Friday, who is the host of several internet radio programs, and lives near Syracuse, NY, to quit bragging about the absolutely beautiful weather they've been getting there, while we are still waiting to warm up.

In Jersey we seem to have skipped spring and went from winter to summer. It's going to be 90 Tuesday.

Not uncommon for the east coast. I grew up in Philly. In the SF Bay Area, you can't figure out what season it is half the time. I have worn shorts in January and a heavy sweater in August (and to be clear, this is the Northern hemisphere). We had a really warm April (or maybe March) and now it's back to wearing long sleeves and a fleece jacket. In fact, the weather is very comfortable, but you always need to be prepared for a sudden drop in temperature.
