Title: bladder infection and increase of creatinine level
Post by: Rain on March 05, 2015, 11:32:26 AM
I got my first bladder infection at 9 months post transplant.   My creatinine rose to 108 when it's normally in the 80s.   Has anyone else had this.  The doctors assured me that it's normal and it will go back down.  But my next appointment is not until April, so I was wondering what everyone else's experience is.

I don't want to lose this transplant so I am kind of a worry wart.

I haven't had a bladder infection, but I caught a cold that made my creatinine go from 0.9 to 1.2. I haven't had it rechecked since then yet, but I'm not concerned about it. I know it'll be back to normal on my next labs. Just keep drinking (water!). I also had problems with my bladder stent a couple months after transplant that made my creatinine jump to 1.4. I popped right back down when the issue was resolved.

Any time I am sick with anything, my cr. goes up. Then comes back down again once I am better. First off, congrats on the lovely numbers. Even on my best days 12 years ago, my creatinine has never been that low with the transplant. So don't worry too much. The transplant is often sensitive to any sorts of changes, be they good or bad. And then things will settle again. Check again in a few weeks and I'm sure you will find that your numbers have dropped again.  Get well soon.

Hi Rain. When ive had an infection and creatinine rose a bit they always sent me a blood form to go get them drawn after better and off antibiotics if my next appointment was far away. Can they not do this for u? Then i would call my tx nurse for blood results. They're always happy to give me blood tests if i feel rough or am worried for any reason, i think ive got about 3 spare blood forms 'just in case' in between appointments. My worse uti was a couple wks after tx. My creatinine had got down to the 70s and ended up in the 100s. I felt really poorly. But it did come down again xx

Hi Rain!  I just had a urinary tract infection a couple weeks ago and my creatinine jumped from 1.2 to 1.7.  My labs last week were 1.4.  I go Wednesday for more labs and am hoping those numbers come down.  Try not to worry!  Seems like this is a pretty common occurrence in transplant patients.  My transplant doc assures me the numbers should return to normal.
