Title: numb feet??
Post by: familyfirst on February 19, 2015, 01:00:49 PM
Hi all,

My other half has been complaining of numb feet recently and mentioned it to his doctor at HD tonight and they have advised him not to drive and are looking at doing some nerve tests on him. Anyone suffered with this before? is it serious?

He has only just started a phased return to work and he drives 40 minutes to work......yet another set back for him :(

he started HD in December 2014 and after a very rocky start he has been doing well this last few weeks! Its feels like one thing after another :(

I treat many diabetics with peripheral neuropathy and I never stop them from driving if they feel comfortable doing it.  They do rather well with it driving.  Unfortunatly the numbness is hard to improve. Pain is treatable but numbness is not usually.   However many cases of non diabetic neuropathy are not permanent.

Sounds like peripheral neuropathy.  Is your husband diabetic?   Does he still have any residual kidney function?  What is his  dialysis prescription?  What are his phosphorus and calcium numbers

Hi,
No he is not diabetic (to our knowledge - is it worth asking for him to be tested?) his kidney function is about 6%, he know he is on a small kidney FX600 he thinks.
phosphorus 1.7 mmol/l
cal 2.52 mmol/l

Hi, with me, taking Salmon oil caps, and magnesium, and zinc tablets regularly, made the numbness an awful lot less.

Good luck, Cas
