Title: Biopsy is today and my labs look awful
Post by: Deanne on February 13, 2015, 10:46:48 AM
I should have rescheduled. Too late now. I'm checked in and they'll be coming to get me in a few more minutes. The cold I caught played havoc on my lab results. Creatinine is 1.2. Normal is 0.9. Magnesium and phosphorus are low. Blood sugar is high. White cell count is high. I haven't seen tacrolimus level yet, but I'm sure it's high, gauging by how bad the tremors are today. Grrrr!

Whew. He asked what was going on, but was fine with them after I told him why they were so far off. Biopsy is done. Now the boring 4 hours on my back.

I am so sorry for what you have to go through, Deanne !
... and I do hope, that the event of the kidney-biopsy is not going to play havoc with your body...
... Please take great care of yourself ... and please let us know in your own time, how everything went...
... I remember from my own kidney biopsy in 1972, that I had to lie still and was not allowed to move from the bed for at least 24 hours...
... but it then went longer than that ... and please share with us the result of your kidney-biopsy, I keep my fingers crossed,,,
All the best get-well-soon wishes and good luck from Kristina.

Your lab results don't surprise me considering the circumstances.  Your next round of labs will probably look significantly different!

Still, isn't it the most awful feeling to see those lab numbers and think, "what the hell?"  Panic sets in!  This probably won't be the first time this happens.   ::)

Enjoy your weekend, and try to let the pent-up anxiety just fade away. :cuddle;

Hoping your biopsy comes back fine and your next labs will too!  I had a biopsy about a month after transplant.  I think the worst part was lying flat on my back for the 4 hours.  Glad it's over for you!  Hang in there!

Biopsy is done. Yay! I should get the results in a couple of days.

When I thought my cold was better after only one day, I think I was delusional. The next day my temperature went up to 101.7 and it's still hanging around 99 after a week. My normal temperature is 97.7. The neph who did the biopsy on Friday suggested getting a throat swab to make sure I don't have strep, so I'm headed in to a clinic this afternoon. Since I can't eat much, I'm taking extra phosphorus and magnesium. I worked so hard to bring up my levels. I don't want to start all over again.

Urp.  I'm sorry to hear you are still unwell.  Go to bed and sleep it off if you can.  I hope you feel much better soon.

Now I'm just plain p*ssed. The biopsy results are in. No sign of rejection, but they think I have reflux and I need to go back to urology for a VCUG (Voiding cystourethrogram). It all goes back to that blasted bladder stent.

i wish you good luck with the urology department and hopefully it is "only false alarm"...
... I keep my fingers crossed and send you all my best wishes,
Kristina.

OK, so you can rule out rejection.  That is HUGE news!

Boy, that stent has really left behind a nasty legacy.  Why exactly do they think you have reflux?  What signs have they seen?

Did you ever go to the clinic and get tested for strep?  Did you get results?

What the hell is going on????

They found casts in the biopsy sample and said reflux can cause them. If it's reflux, I think it means surgery to re-position the ureter.

I'm still having a temper tantrum. They want me to stay on prednisone. I was too shocked/horrified at the news to question them about it. I'll wait until after the test tomorrow to bring it up again. I need them to explain the benefit of prednisone on this condition. "Just because" won't cut it.

I went in to our clinic at work to ask about strep. It's kind of a mini doctor's office, staffed with a couple of doctors and nurses. They agreed with me that I have your run of the mill, common cold.

I googled "casts in biopsy" and didn't learn anything expect that there seem to be a bazillion types of casts.  Who knew?  I don't like the sound of surgery. >:(

Yep.  I always tell them, "I don't like this, so convince me why I should."  Do they want you to stay on pred just for now or, like, forever?

Well, that's a modicum of good news, I guess.
