While I don't agree with the pity wording in the title, this is good news.
I would have said, angry, frustrated and betrayed patients rather than the other wording:)

I agree with you JW77, but we must not forget
that the writer of this article is on our side and tries to convey
to any healthy reader, how vulnerable, limited and very fragile
the live of an ESRF-dialysis-patients can be (for the lucky ones)
and very often is (for the unlucky ones) ...
