Title: Travelling with NX stage machine
Post by: Sugarlump on December 31, 2014, 01:28:38 PM
We are finally getting NX stage machines (slowly) into the UK  :2thumbsup;
I am curious how it works when you travel with the machine. To use it do you need (a) a clean water supply and (b) electricity?
I am wondering how easy it is to get off the beaten track with one?
At the moment all my holiday plans involve complicated arrangements with other dialysis units every 2/3 days which is pretty limiting for travelling.

Nxstage is a completely self contained system . You just need electricity .  You can travel with premixed dialysate bags so no water is need. You can run the outflow into a sink or toilet. Its really quite simple.

It really is that simple. You don't need a special adapter plug either for travel, just the standard adapter for that country. Every box has 2 x 5 liter bags of your dialysate, so if you do 30 liter a session you'll fit easily 6 boxes dialysate, 3 bags saline (1 spare), 1 machine + needles etc in car to get off the beaten track. You just plug the machine in someones socket.

We routinely went camping in our little camper with our machine. We ran the waste into a tank. We took a generator with us in case the power went out, but never had to use it.

We also took our machine to visit our daughter several times a year. You have to be organized to remember all the things you need, but otherwise, traveling is a cinch!  :2thumbsup;

And let's not forget Bill Peckham's 8-day trip down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon!
