Title: friend died while hooked to machine
Post by: del on March 25, 2007, 01:43:12 PM
One of our dialysis friends that was on the same dialysis shift with hubby died Saturday morning while she was hooked up.  She just recently had all the tests completed for a transplant and all the info was sent to get her on the transplant list. She was mid 50's.  I was talking to her when we visited the unit on Thurs. and she was really excited. She told me that she was having trouble with her heart again (she had a heart condition too) and that the docs had changed her meds.  She wanted me to get the info on who she had to contact to be trained for home hemo if they wouldn't do a transplant because of her heart.  What a shock when we got the call Sat. lunch time that she had died that morning. Imagine the shock her husband got when he came back from going to the mall and she was dead. They think she had a heart attack. I guess there will be an autopsy. Hubby hasn't had a good week.  Our dog got sick and had to be put down on Friday. He was really upset over that and then his friend died on Saturday.  It wil be really strange to visit the unit and not see her there.

Sorry to hear what happened. The possibility of seeing someone die on the machine is one of my biggest fears of being at my centre, especially since I am so close to most of my fellow patients, and some of them are in really poor health. Take care.

Wow!  you have really had some hard circumstances to deal with.  But it is these things that bring out the strength of the human spirit. Our caring thoughts are with you and hubby as well as the family of the person who passed. What a sad outcome.
Blessings.

Oh honey.You have had, with your husband such a hard week, haven't you? Having a copatient die like that really hits home with us. She was one of us, after all.  Give your husband a hug for us, let him know we are thinking of you and of him, and your grief, one death is horrible enough, twoi is just traumatic.  :grouphug;
