Hi Everyone
I just received my transplant in June of 2014. I am back to work and feeling good. No major complications. :bandance; My blood sugar levels became high about 2 months ago (darn that Prednisone >:D) and I gained 20 pounds in 3 weeks. I was down 10 pounds from my pre-surgery weight and then all of a sudden, the scale started creeping up. So now I have stabilized and not gaining any longer, but I need to get this weight off. I don't have much muscle tone due to dialysis for 5 1/2 years, 3 being PD dialysis...so my abs are shot! So I figured I needed something to gain muscle and provide cardio. The doctor recommends walking, but that simply is not cutting it. My husband and step daughter take Taekwondo, so I decided to join as well. It is kicking my butt...but in a good way :boxing;.
Does anyone else take any martial arts? TX team, said no hand to hand combat and not to over do it. Sometimes, I don't know if I am pushing myself too hard or if I am just being a wimp. Any suggestions?

Exercise is good for you. Just listen to your body. No pain no gain does not apply to the area around your surgery. Work up slowly on exercises like crunches. Anything cardio should be good for weight control. I don't know much about martial arts. Don't let anyone kick you in the area of your new kidney.

I am new to this transplant thing, I had mine 19 days ago. Still recovering at home, feeling great apart from the pain in the surgical wound. Not such a big deal.
I was submerged in new information, during the time I was at the hospital, in Portugal, they actually train you to deal wtih rejection symptoms, hidric balance, weight gain, and so forth.
Anyway, one of the things they said, is that it's absolutely not an option to practice any kind of physical actvity that involves contact, specially to the graft area.
They were very assertive on this topic.
