Title: Advice Please...
Post by: angela515 on March 23, 2007, 08:00:37 AM
Now that I am allowed to work, I just go look for a job. Problem is, I live 30 miles from town where any job is. I have no lisence (it's suspended), or vehicle. So I obviously am working on saving up to py my ticket off to get my lisence unsuspended first. So, once that is done, and I re-take the test and get my lisence again, I still have the issue of no vehicle. So in order to get a vehicle, I need a job to save money up and get a car, however, can't get5 a job without a car to be able to get there.

WHat can i do???

How much do you need to pay the fine? Beg borrow or steal. Then maybe your parents seeing you getting things straightened out will help with transportation even if you have to ride in early.

Question is what about your children? Your hours etc.?

Well the fine I must pay on my own, as I get told everyday. Its 1600, so Ill be saving most all my money this month and next to pay it all off. I cant get a ride to work, thats the prob// my dad bitches if I bring it up that i'll need a ride, b/c of the gas prices and the fact he needs sleep and so does my mom.... so idunno what to do.

It has to be a graveyard shift, b/c i have to be home to get my kids off to school and home when they get out of school.

What about a carpool? Is there a local paper you can advertise in to find someone with similar working hours who'd want to share gas expenses?

Find someone who is headed in the same direction as your  work when you get the job to share the ride.

It's not easy but when there is a will there is a way.  You are a strong person who has found a way to live so you will surely work this little problem out as well.  I went 5 very long years w/o a drivers license while going to school and holding a job to help pay for it.  It was not easy.  Is there absolutely nothing you can do in town?  Even if it is not what you may want to do you could just stick it out until you can do better for yourself.  Also what about a loan from a financial institution.  Debt sucks but some of us are left with little choice.  Good luck.  If I have any ideas I will be sure to pass them on.

I guess I could try the carpool thing, don't know if they would have it way out where I live. I shall ask around.

I had no problem being without a car or lisence when I lived in Vegas, a city with bus transportation. However I don't live in the city right now, I live in the middle of nowhere 30 miles from the city. Where all the jobs are, so I literally cannot apply for just anything when there is literally nothing to apply for where I live. I live 30 miles from an available place of employment.

I will be, Susie. That's why I said I needed to work a graveyard shift, to be home in the morning to get my kids off to school on the school bus, then I would sleep during the day while their at school... and wake up before their bus arrives home.

What about a moped ? do you have them over there? cheap to buy , cheap to run if its only for transport. Other options any talents you have ? set up your own business or what about home working? With the internet at your fingers could you not put it to good use ?

Mopeds??? Are they allowed on interstates???? Do they even go the speed of the speed limit on the interstates?? lol... And as for buying one, that means money, and like I pointed out, I need a job to get money.  :P

Tried to find a work at home job for the last 3 yrs I haven't worked... I found nothing but scams.

Sorry Angela515 i am in the Uk , over here mopeds are really cheap second hand, so thats not much use to you there! Difficult to say what to do , it all comes down to money doesnt it? Hard to start out if you dont have any! Anything you could make and sell ,either locally or on line ? Do people who live near-by not need cleaners? We always have small ads up in shops over here for cleaners (in households) or an ironing service ? dog walking ? trying to think of things you can fit in with the children , no outlay as such and no travel , do any of these help? ???

Angela?? are ya nuts??  $50.00 a week means only $10.00 per day, girlfriend, i am sure can earn way more than that.  maybe if you go for $10.00 per hour with a minumum of 4 hours a day. That might work out a little better, i know Spring cleaning time is coming and alot of people would love some help spring cleaning,  i hope you find something soon,   ;)

I think that is an excellent idea Angela, you can make money and it can be more flexible then a 9-5er

But please listen to goofynina, never under estimate yourself or under price :)

Remember when you are going to put your skills out for a business to put a real value on what you are doing.  If people really want what you do, they will pay for it.

What people tend to do over here is say ..Cleaner wanted £4.50 per hour x 6 hrs a week for example , so you could either try and find a few like this eg , Mrs Smith on Monday..Mrs Jones on Tuesday etc , till you have enough little jobs to make a wage , or like you say , put an ad up saying your are available for so much per hour , and possibly offer an ironing service at an extra charge ? Hope you get sorted , it really annoys me when people like you WANT to work and cant find it , yet the ones who sit on their backsides seem to do ok ! :2thumbsup;

Thanks everyone!! I had a big argument with my dad today.... that wasn't good, but it did let me tell him why I'm so frustrated and how he is making it worse... hopefully he will let it sink in, and either offer to give me a ride or let me know what hours would work for him or my mom to give me a ride, or stop saying I need to get a job and move out... either or! :)

Housecleaners around here won't even come to your house for less than $10 an hour, minimum 3 hours per visit.

How big of a neighborhood do you live in?  Are there lots of houses in walking distance?  You could make up fliers offering housecleaning services and drop them in the mailboxes of those houses close enough to you to walk to work.  Even if you only did it temporarily, it might get you enough to get a vehicle and get a job in town.  Even a once-only job for helping with someone's spring cleaning could start you off.

you would be better off putting flyers on doors or windshield at a business, as putting flyers in mailboxes is illegal. I used to clean houses-pretty  tough with no wheels. After you pay the fine ,and square your license-maybe your parents could co-sign on a used car.
I used a moped to go 23 miles to work-and it did take me over an hour with traffic, but it worked until I got a car.
