Cheverly man wins gold medal in Transplant Games
By Emilie Eastman Staff Writer

Eric Lang of Cheverly won a gold medal in bowling during the Transplant Games of America, an Olympic-style competition open to organ donors and recipients held July 11 to July 15 in Houston.

Lang, who said he received a kidney transplant 30 years ago and has been bowling since he was a teenager, helped represent Team Maryland at the competition and bowled 235, 216 and 244 to win the gold, he said.

“After [winning the gold], I felt like my mission had been accomplished,” Lang said. “I hope my performance, 30 years after my kidney transplant, will inspire other transplant recipients and give them hope that great things lie ahead for them too. More importantly, I hope these games created more awareness about organ donation.”
