Hello All
It is nice to read so many stories and experiences about CKD, dialysis and Transplant.
My story spans over Tome - I'm sure i will post later more detail but by way of introduction........
I was diagnosed with Reflux Nephropathy when I was about 12. We lived in a country town and had to visit Melbourne to see the specialist. I remember some tests (some smile and easy, some not simple and easy) and many dietary requirements and restrictions.
I had a fistula created in April 1999 and started HD in September that year. I don't recall feeling worse over time but looking back - HD did make some difference.
I transplanted on 1st December 1999 and received the donor kidney from my Dad. I know now just how lucky I was!
Apart from minor bouts of rejection at different times, countered by changes in medication, all has been well.
I am married with 3 of the most amazing children ever. I am a qualified teacher, now running my own tuition business and working with a local realestate agent.
About 18 months ago things started to change of my kidney functioning again began to decline. The medications made little difference and I have again reached stage 5 renal failure.i eGFR is back down to 14 and monthly visits to the Nephrologist are keeping regression slowing.
I love toy golf, am involved in the local football club, enjoy paying its my kids and taking holidays (anyone who doesn't). Last year we went on a south pacific cruise and managed to take the kids to Disneyland California and also Fiji. Tried to fit a bit in before things changed too much with my health.
I am looking forward to reading many more stories and experiences and whilst I understand things are different for everyone, am quite interested in the whole discussion about early start / late start dialysis.
Thanks for taking the time to read through my introduction. You'll find I am honest and open, will contribute where possible and ask when needed.

Hello Hendo ... :welcomesign; to ihd.com!
It's wonderful that your dad's kidney has given you nearly fifteen years of living such a fabulous life, but not so wonderful that you're now heading back to dialysis. Here's hoping for another transplant in your near future!
Looking forward to getting to know you better.
