Tof hee de zon schijnt, wat willen we nog meer?
Great or what, the sun is shining, what more do we want?
-
De zon schijnt hier niet elke dag ...
Misschien ... maar we hebben nog geluk ... met de zomer?
The sun does not shine here everyday ...
Maybe ... but we are lucky ... in the summer?

Zeker weten! Ga me nou niet vertellen dat je Nederlands bent? Miste ik dat dan in je introduktie? Staat niet in je profiel
:cheer:
Transl. : for sure. Now don't tell me that you are Dutch? Did I miss that in your intro? It's not in your profile
-
Hallo Cassandra, ik ben niet het Nederlands, maar de taal, de mensen en de cultuur interesseren me ... Ben je Nederlands?
Hi Cassandra, I'm not Dutch, but the language, people and culture interest me ... Are you Dutch?

Yup ik ben geboren en getogen Nederlandse. Jouw Nederlands is ongelofelijk goed voor een niet-Nederlandse. Waar ben jij geboren dan?
:-*
Translation: yup I'm Dutch born, and bred. Your Dutch is pretty amazing for someone whose non-Dutch. Where were you born than?

Yup I was born and bred Dutch. Your Dutch is amazingly good for a non-Dutch. Where were you born then?
My background is somewhat mysterious, because I don't know my father - and my mother died shortly after my birth ...
...My genetic mother comes from a family who managed to escape Russia in 1917 ...
...I grew up as a child with several European languages... Italian, French, German, English and a little Dutch,
... unfortunately I forgot most of my language skills because I mainly speak English now ...

Please Galvo which languages are they?
I believe Galvo is asking 'What in the world are you talking about?' in the native tongue of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria.
Of course, being fluent in conversational Igbo I don't need this site, but it should back up my claims: www.translate.google.com ;D

Where in Holland were you born? I only know Amsterdam a little...

cariad, you clever minx, we must have an Igbo get-together sometime.
Cassandra, my first post was in Albanian, another language that I think cariad is familiar with.
-
Lovely so many linguists around here
:clap;
And Kristina, sorry for your tough start in life. But, if your language skills are as good in your other languages as they are in Dutch, you haven't forgotten that much of them :)
-
Just a thought...hum, many on this forum can speak a few other languages, what do you think as optional to non- English speakers to have questions on this forum?
We can summarize the question in English and who every is fluent in the secondary language can reply.
We would help patients on the international level. :shy;
-
I second that !!!

Thank you Cassandra. Unfortunately I did forget a lot because I hardly ever use my languages now...
... and thanks again for your kind thoughts...

Great idea! Especially as so many are traumatized and feeling lost after being diagnosed with end stage renal failure ...
... and coming across helpful people assisting a little in their own language might help a little...

Ooo, count me in! I will bring some of my sauciest Igbo limericks, and even brush up on my admittedly-rusty Albanian. :waving;

Do you think it is okay for those with extra languages skill can post a line so Google search can bring people into this website?
If so, can we all start ?
-
Please place all posts in English. If you use another language you must provide an English translation.
I have requested that members go back and modify their post in this topic and provide a translation for the primarily English speakers on our forum.
Thank you for completing this request.

I want to see any posts you will put on Google before they are placed on Google. All posts for IHD.com must be seen by the administrator- kitkatz- so that our site represented Epoman's legacy.
If it is in another language please provide a translation for me.
I do not give anyone permission to post anything on google without clearing it through me -the admin.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing Epoman, but I would be willing to bet that he would jump at the opportunity to have many linguists here to interpret postings so as to reach so many others that do not use the English language.
If everyone could post which language they were willing to do interpretation and reposting, perhaps one day the Mods can set up the different language forums. This could be a great way of expanding IHD to include those in other Countries that currently do not, or cannot benefit from using IHD simply because of the language barrier.
I also agree with kitkatz, nothing should be posted anywhere without clearing it with Administration. IHD does have to CYA.
Sorry now that I never took any languages.
-
Thanks CharlieB53 ..., your suggestion is very sweet...
...On the Continent everyone learns at least two different languages.... and whenever we visit a different country, we learn or speak a different language ...
...whereas in America there is “only” American English and perhaps a little Spanish ...
... I guess, that is why Epoman kindly set up a site on IHD especially for Spanish-speaking people in ESRF...
... to make life easier for them, whenever they wish to visit IHD...
I always imagined Epoman as a very kind, humanitarian person. He did see a lot in his time and he also understood ...
... I am certain, that, if he would have felt our little banter about the weather - in different languages (me in Dutch) -
Epoman might perhaps have mentioned his reservations (if he had any) very decently and certainly not in a harsh way ..
... After all: most visitors on IHD are in end stage kidney failure and there is no necessity to have harsh words with each other...
... after all, it is the visitors who create an anonymous computer-site whether it is to be a pleasant site – or not...
In our little banter I wrote - in the Dutch language - that we don’t have much of a summer here (England).
The sun shines very rarely and it does rain a lot – like right now...
Why do I know a little Dutch? I have always thought it fascinating to understand a little of the Dutch language,
because they have – over the centuries - created some of the greatest artists... and not only during the “Dutch Golden Age”...
... I very much love the paintings of Vermeer and I adore the “little twinkle” in the paintings of Frans Hals,
I love the winter-scenes of Avercamp and van de Velde, the paintings of Rembrandt, van Ostade,
Hyronymus Bosch, Ruisdael, Cuyp and many others... A great culture well worth studying...
One of my absolute favourite paintings is the self-portrait by the Flemish painter Anthony van Dyke...
... At one point I travelled all the way to St. Petersburg, to study van Dyke’s wonderful self-portrait in the Hermitage...
-
I love the fact that IHD is very diverse, but when you post in another language on the boards you leave out the English only people and it leaves a lot of people out of the conversation.
Besides I cannot do my job as the admin of the site if I cannot understand what is being said.
I still need members to go back and use the modify button to translate their statements on this topic, please.

Just read your admonishments and warnings, kitkatz. I am amazed at your belligerent attitude towards what was clearly quite a bit of harmonious fun. By the way, I don't speak any language other than English. So I am now on a "2nd warning"! What, one more infraction and I'm to be kicked off the site? So be it. I'll now say 'goodbye' to all my friends here, as I'm bound to upset you again, kitkatz. I'm glad that you enjoy exercising your administerial role so much.

Being a moderator on a forum, is not always an enjoyable situation. :banghead;
The very fact of being asked to be a mod, indicates that some one considered that person, level headed enough to enter the world of moderators. Of course until that new mod is tried by the fires of moderating an active forum, one really won't know how it all will turn out. >:D
The really bad mod wont last long on any worthwhile forum. :Kit n Stik;
Ah yes, that fine line between 'right/wrong', 'censorship/no censorship', 'language of the site /any language on a site' 'all in fun activity'. :oops;
Most forum members have no of idea the amount of work and time involved to keep a forum running sanely, ad and spam free, and mostly trouble free. ::)
So any language other than the 'sites basic language' is automatically deleted, at least is how I handle it.
While it would be neat to have an all language forum, it would pose monumental problems to do so.
While it would be neat if all mods were gracious and affable all the time, but, just think of how your daily routines vary day to day, are you really gracious and affable all the time!
Once any type of notice is given regards any type of activity, best consider it a favor, and heed the warning. :bow;
-
Thanks Talker. You say it better than I could have.

Please don’t go galvo!
I agree with you, that our little playful banter was meant as a bit of harmonious harmless fun
and clearly our sort of fun is not everyone’s "cup of tea"…
...All we can do is accepting it... but please think it over and please don’t go!
Best wishes from Kristina.

Not to make mention of a member 'Not leaving' over a gentle warning notice. :bow;
Yikes ! How insensitive of me. :oops;

Well said Noahvale, and I miss you already Galvo. ;D KK is right, and I for one am well happy to not receive any adverts for kidneys (for example) on this site. I did find the language variation actually quite fun, but understand that it's not very nice for English-only speaking members.
Can we just shake hands, and forget about it?
Love y'all, Cas

Hell life is too short for all of this.. especially for us.

On topic:
"In the good old summer time,
In the good old summer time,
Strolling thro' the shady lanes
With your baby mine;
You hold her hand and she holds yours,
And that's a very good sign
That she's your tootsie wootsie
In the good old summer time."

Wow, I just find what Kitkatz wrote and it is harsh!
The body is made of many parts, i.e. head, body, limps, internal organs etc... so English is not the only language! Yes, it is being used by many but so is French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese
etc...
My intention was share with other non-English speakers which will bring diversity into this forum.
Hum, I wonder why there is a debacle into Facebook.
At this rate, I too may say goodbye to this forum.
