Have you seen the infomercial about Clear TV? I ordered it. I have Dish and I have the lowest menu which is $33.70 a month. Not much but After a one time payment of $20 I get free TV forever. I'll get ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and a few other locals. That is all I need. I'm paying for 30 channels I never watch. Either they speak Spanish or are just not my type like that Jewelry Channel or the one where they sell crap from storage sheds. OMG
I'm jumping towards the past and FREE TV. Plus, I still get 2 movies a month from Netflix and I can watch stuff on my tablet for free. I quit the streaming from Netflix because they didn't offer anything good.
Once I get it hooked up I'll let you know. I cannot wait to call DISH and tell them to shove it. :cheer:

We have never paid for cable TV. We did have it once when we lived in an apartment and it was included in the rental.
We do have a fairly good movie collection and pay for netflix streaming.
-
So you pay $20.00 and from then on it is free? Am I reading that right? Sounds too good to be true. Hope it works for you and hope you let us know about it.

Clear TV is just a digital TV antenna. You can watch any station available over the air in your area.

Depending on where you live Digital over the air TV can have a lot of channels since your normal channels might have 2 or more channels available.
Here in the Washington DC USA metro area its probably 40 or 50 channels. But that being said we pay for extra basic cable since the cost of our cable modem (the best option for us) is lower with basic service so we paid only a few dollars extra for the basic of basic channels. But recently Comcast offered the exact same package, plus HBO for $69/month so we opted to pay the extra $5 to get HBO. At times I watch it in Dialysis on the streamlining on iPad.
We have a friend that dropped cable and still gets most of his shows via the Hulu Plus subscription along with his existing Netflix subscription, that combined with a TV recording the over the air TV shows works good for him.

If we weren't such sports nuts, we would ditch cable (we have AT&T Uverse because I hate Comcast that much). I've looked at the options and I haven't really found a good one that would allow us to watch NFL games (other that what would be shown on the local channels) and NHL hockey games. If we could get NFL and NHL along with local news, I think that plus Amazon Prime would be good enough for me.

I got amazon prime this year, and I find all the top US movies I've already seen. My wife is extremely diligent about getting movies from the library using the holds system and we see most movies before they are released to Netflix (because of the delay forced on Netflix). I'm not big on the TV shows so overall I've not been that impressed with the Amazon Prime choices.

I finally got Clear TV hooked up and "Dish stuff" set in the corner. In the living room I get a good 10 channels. Pretty good reception. In the bedroom I have an old TV/VCR combo, and they did say it must be digital to work. So, I still get 1 channel. So the local KXLY channel news etc. So, even if I go buy a 22" digital TV for $150 (on sale) I will still save money in the not to distant long run. I think I'm going to revert back to the 70's with free TV. I have my tablet if I want to watch something else and I get 2 movies a month with Netflix.

Son gave me a new digital antenna but I haven't put it up yet.
Scared to. Lightning storms roll across here and we are on high ground.
House to the north side the transformer has been blown off the power pole 4 times. House to the South has been struck twice, cracking the foundation thru the basement and starting a fire.
I have repeatedly asked the local hardware stores about the stand-offs used to hold wires up and off the roof. Both for the antenna wire and a grounding cable to be anchored at least 4 feet deep in the ground. And an antenna isolator, so any lightning surge is redirected from the antenna wire to the grounding wire.
No on has any idea what I'm talking about.
Until I get it together correctly the antenna isn't going on the roof. And it has to be pole mounted on the roof, I'm surrounded by old trees. Mostly mine, and no I refuse to cut any of them.
So, until then, we stay with the Dish. Darn.

I love it! I boxed up the stuff from Dish and sent it back to them. I have not received the "final" bill yet but have received several "Please come back" letters! Really? They would be better off to put a low price out there and KEEP their current customers. I'm PAY TV FREE!!!
