I have been having a heel problem for couple of months now and it is
just not healing. It started out after the toe infection when a slipper made
my heel dry and it cracked and now this. I have to go to a surgeon Mon.
and I am so scared. I'd like to go back to work. I feel good if I could
have this heel heal. My toe still has a place on it also where the nail came off.
It is not so sore but still needs to clear up. Thanks.

O.B. Did they rule out a bone spur? That is what i had and it was right where my heel had cracked. It took about a month for it to stop hurting, it is still there, i feel a slight pain, just not like it was, hubby went to his doctor for his and the doc prescribed some antibiotics and some foot exercises for him. Needless to say i healed alot faster than he did without medication, go figure huh :P Hope you get better soon, sending well wishes your way ;)

No it is not a spur.
Being a diabetic and on dialysis causes things to heal slowly.
I have an antibiotic cream I put on it twice a day but it does not seem to
be improving. I just feel so scared.

hi all
Went to surgeon today and he "worked" on my heel.
Boy did the numbing shot hurt when heel is so sore.
Had to hang on tight. Numbness has worn off now. :(
Have a special surgical bandages to wear on it and wrapped in gauze.
I pray to God that this brings healing.
Have to go back to see him next week.
Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts and please keep them going.

Glad he worked on it O.B. But did he say what it is, where it came from and how do you get rid of it? any meds? :P

It started right after I had the toe infection.
I wore this slipper around with the toe cut out and it dried out my heel and
my heell cracked. The first dr. said it was a fungus from all the antibiotics and shots
I had to have for the toe infection and prescribed an antibiotic cream.
Then it got worse and would not heal and got larger and red, etc. and the dr.
then referred me to a surgeon. This special surgical bandages is supposed to draw
infection, etc. out of it and after the culture comes back he will know what kind of
antibiotic to prescribe. It is very sore. I'm wearing a shoe with no heel to rub it.
Said not to put any more cream on it right now. Today he trimmed it around the
edges, etc. I didn't know he was going to do all that and I drove. Anyway,
I just need it to heal like NOW!

I went back to the dr. Thurs.
He "worked" on it again and prescribed a cream for it.
I am still taking antibiotics.
It is still so painful. I need it to heal. can barely walk.
I'm beginning to wonder if I'm going to make it through this.
Yesterday I felt real weak and lightheaded, like I was going to pass out.

O.B. I am sorry to hear that, you just keep takin' them antibiotics and applying that cream and leave the praying up to us :2thumbsup; You know we got a great group of prayers here who are supporting you and waiting for you to get better too ;) Godspeed my friend :)

I'm about the same.
Today I think I had less times of unbearable pain tho still in pain.
That is a small measurement of improvement but I will take it.
I keep telling my energy and strength to go to my heel to heal. haha
The days and nights are lonnnnnnnnnnng right now.
But at least I felt like getting on IHD tonight. :D

Sorry Ohio Buckeye. Pain can just take over your days - it can be so hard. I have not been on the computer for a couple of weeks, also. Part depression, part pain - but I feel better when I connect with people here. At least everyone at IHD understands the amount of pain we go through and the roller coaster of emotions. Wish I was there. We could go to DerDutchman for lunch!!

This wk. the doc said he saw no improvement and I was
supposed to go back Thurs but he called today and said he
wants me to come in tomorrow. He feels he needs to "clean"
it out again. ugh That means it will be deeper and bigger.
I am trying to make it thru this. I don't know.
If I lost my foot I don't think I could do PD and be independent.
I don't think I'd do hemo to live in a nursing home.
I know where I'm going but I did want to be here a longer
time for my little grandson. Right now I feel like I'm living
on the edge. This is a hard time.
I love you all and appreciate you so and appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
I do hope I can meet some of you in Vegas if that's where the meet is.

I do not know what to do as I made an appt. with another dr. for a 2nd opinion
but can't see him til tomorow. So I don't know whether to let the dr. dig at it
again today or wait til I see the other dr. tomorrow to see what he says.

Call the doc. that you have an appt with today and see if he can see you later on this week, if he can, then cancel today's appt. see the doc tomorrow, see what he says, and if its not what you want to hear, go see the doctor you were originally seeing ;) Good luck and keep us posted please. :cuddle;

I orignally had the appt. for Thurs. and he called Sun. and said he should see me
Mon. instead. Being that he called me on Sun. I thought he must have felt it
was important to see me today iso of Thurs. I hope he can put it off until
I get this 2nd opinion.

a leg study for Thurs. to make sure there's not a circulation problem.
So I felt like I made some headway today.
I guess I'm praying now that if there is a problem in my leg that it can be solved somehow.
and of course for my heal to heel. maybe the antibiotics will help some of the pain and redness
and swelling. I sure pray so.

Whatever the outcome OB we are here for you. I think about you all the time and I'm sorry this has been so uncomfortable for you. Diabetes can be such a terrible disease. I hope they can do something.

The dr. office called tues. and said the test was acceptable
and interpretable and to come in 5/8.
I was expecting more than that.
So I am still waiting in pain This is the pits
and I don't see an end to it yet.

Wish i could help OB, about the only thing you could do is contact the Doctor again and explain that you don't think he understands the pain you are in and demand pain relief.
This may not sound right but the only good thing about pain is at least the nerves are still alive down there. I do know what that pain feels like trust me I'm not trying to make light of it, but it's a good thing that the nerve damage is not bad enough to have no feelings.

Last night I hurt so bad and felt so bad I didn't even do pd.
didn't even put nightclothes on.
laid down on bed about 3:15 and got up after twelvle, except for taking pain pills.
this has goit to get better,
many of us seem to be hurting right now.
all get better.

he is recommending me to st. ann's wound clinic.
he hopes I will have an appt. there for thurs.

The wound clinic is a great idea. Tell them you have no way to get there and they may send a nurse to your house to clean and redress the wound daily. I had a friend who developed a real bad leg wound roughly 2.5 " wide by 4.5" long down to the bone. It took 6 months because of her diabetes but it healed, with the constant care.

My oldest son is coming over tomorrow eve. to cut grass.
2 friends and a sister-in-law brought in some groc. for me
and fixed some prepared food for me. I am pretty much sitting around with my
foot propped up. If I recver from this I will never be the same person.

I have a coworker who had a deep wound, she ended up having a nurse come every day to clean and pack it. With what, I'm not sure, quite frankly. I just so hope you can get some relief from the unremitting pain. You're hanging in there, and you're going on. You're one strong lady, you can do this! :grouphug;

a funny thing happened today.
I didn't go to bed til like 3am and my cell phone was in my car but I could not find it.
that means 9 hrs. dialysis takes me til noon.
The dr. is calling my home phone and cell phone to say to come in today.
My best friend of lifetime is an emer. backup. Well they called her at work
She is calling me = no answer.
So she calls her husband who in on way home from work.
They have a house key.
So he is talking to her on the cell phone, "yes my car is there,
she's not in the house, not in backyard," Sue is saying "You gotta check in the bedroom"
and he doesn't want to. She's saying "yes, you to to see if she is alright.
So as he comes down the hall he calls out again "Jan, Jan" and I wake startled after
doing my best sleep and say "What". Eddy?'And I hear him say, she's ok, she answered me.
Then he says "Where if your cell phone " I tell him it is in my car somehwere. He
asked where my car keys were and I am hurring try to do a temporary disconnect and
get into my robe. I get out in the kitchen and he's coming back in with my keys and cellphone,
and gives me a number and says "call this then call Sue everyone is worried about you."
Then my oldest son appears. I have to hurry back for drain and dr. apapt. was only 1hr.+ away.
what a morning. poor Eddie.
Makes you realize how you are living on the edge.

It's good to know that your back up plan works. Some friends are just irreplaceable. Kind of like you. Take care and good luck with your leg study.

Go take car eof yourself. The vac pack was a machine that was placed with bandages over the wound my hubby had. It pulled the juices out of the wound and pulled the sides together. I have pics of his wound, no pics of the machine though or his bandages. His would was huge and it looked gross, so the pics are something I will not post here. I can email what his wound looke dlike at beginning and what it looks like now. There is hope.

my leg 6/1. which seems far off right now. hope and pray it works. dr. will
decide then if stents can be put in or helpful. heel surgery will not happen before then.
have a stress test next wk. (nuclear) which really stresses me out as I don't feel like
my body can handle one bit more stress. love to all.

I hope they are able to clear up that blockage and get blood flowing properly. :cuddle; Hang in there OB, maybe after your surgery your heel will start getting better on its own.

It seems like they are really trying to get to the bottom of all this so in away I'm glad for you but in another way I feel bad you have to go through all this. The nuclear stress test is not all that terrible. I just had one a couple of weeks ago when I was in the Hospital. It only last a couple of minutes and you will get out of breath and kind of nauseous but it only last like 2 minutes. It is over as quick as it starts so try to hang in there and if you can't do it then tell them you are not able to. They will have a couple of nurses and a doctor in the room during the test and someone to monitor your BP on the spot, so try not to stress over this procedure. Hey O.B. I've had one of them stress test done as well and it isnt too bad, just breathe regularly, it goes by fast. I am ahopin' and aprayin' that they clear the blockage and get that blood flowing good again. Your in my thoughts always. :cuddle;

will be home in a day or 2 I think. I have missed you. Hope you are all doing well.
It was the long way to find out I had a heart blockage as well.
