Title: Hi everyone!
Post by: snp_ethan on March 12, 2007, 02:01:45 AM
Hello to everyone,
Im new to the whole dialysis scene.
as a matter of fact, I want to learn about kidney failure as much as I can.
I got a friend who has had kidney failure since he was 9 and I'd like to help him. After my friend, my grandfather was diagnosed with kidney failure as well, and I had to take him to the hospital. I would like to see all of you get better.
I am a student at the University of California and I am doing research to develop a dialysis machine that would allow patients to take dialysis home.
but as I stand right now, I cant do much, which is why I'll be reading voraciously all I can in here to learn more and more and help the whole community.
Please help me out!

Pablo

hi Pablo and welcome to the comunity, this is a place in where to ask all your questions, it is a good fountain of information...

so you wanna develop a machine to take home and dialyzes huh? well I'm sorry to say someone beat you to it back in 1969 lol, there's a machine called the nxstage nowadays to do just that, but if you can come up with a machine that is portable and easy to carry everywhere, you would be doing  the renal community a big favor.

good luck in your endeavor and ask away, we'll be happy to help you...

take care

Rolando

Hello Pablo,

Welcome to IHD, you are a good friend to take an interest in kidney failure and dialysis. A lot of people don't even know what dialysis is much less taking an interest in it.

Here is a link to a machine called the nxstage where members here discuss the machine and it's versatility.

http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?board=37.0

We also have a website designated to the nxstage here:  www.ilovenxstage.com (http://www.ilovenxstage.com)

Hope you enjoy your stay here at IHD.

Welcome!!!  I am looking forward to reading your posts.  I am interested to know if you are working to develop a very portable machine.  The NxStage weighs about 75 lbs or so and although it is portable it would be wonderful to have something even more travel worthy.

Welcome to our community!  You have made the right choice in checking with those who are living this challenge.  Of course, we would be willing to help anything that makes life a bit more comfortable and practical for those on dialysis.  I am living in a region where the only real choice is in-centre haemodialysis, but I do love to hear of all the progress that is being made in other types of dialysis.
Welcome again.
