Title: Holiday Help
Post by: kitkatz on November 23, 2013, 08:26:18 PM
Holiday suggestions for people who know someone with a chronic disease:
1;  Offer to help with driving them to go shopping.  Shopping is exhausting especially at Christmas time.  Often the person can shop but the drive home is difficult by themselves.

2. Be patient with the “I have to sit down” in the middle od the shopping trip. Exhaustion can ht quickly.  Do not expect them to keep up with you.
Go at their pace.

3. Enjoy being out with your friend.

4. Offer to help with the holiday meal.

5. DO not be upset of the meal is a store bought meal or catered. Cooking is a huge undertaking during the holidays.

6. Expect gift certificates as gifts.  Sometimes it is all they can do.

7.  Help with the clean up after the big meal.  Facing a mess after a celebration tha already wore them out can be  a daunting task.

8. Help your friend enjoy the holidays with less stress.

My parents are here visiting through Thanksgiving. I think Mom read these.  :flower; I haven't done any laundry or housework since they've been here. It just somehow keeps doing itself. Thanks Mom! She's in the kitchen making cookies now, while I get some work done.

Good tips... i just wish someone would come and take me shopping.. I'm home by myself a lot, and in winter, I can't take the bus, it's just too dangerous with how the city half-hattedly cleans the streets.. so I have no way to get anywhere
