Title: Do not Laugh at Me!
Post by: Whamo on November 22, 2013, 03:26:21 AM
 :banghead; :stressed; :sos;
I went to my dialysis center for my monthly checkup.  I got the usual lecture abut phosphorus and liquids from my nurse.  Then one of the smart doctors examined me.  He had me take an X-Ray.  It seems I am full of stool.  Do not laugh at me.  People have been telling me this for years, and the doctor just now notices.  Muddy water has developed underneath my catheter that won't drain.  So they have me taking 333 cc's of laxative every four hours.  I'm supposed to gush like an oil well in Texas, but it hasn't happened yet.  Then they're going to move my catheter to a better position without surgery.  That is supposed to happen today, but it can't if I don't clean out my system in time.   I sleep on my right side, so I think that may have moved my cath.

Whamo, I am not laughing. Well I might be smiling. I have just got thourghts about you sitting on the loo, after taking all those laxatives. I think every renal patient should have an x-ray every so many months to keep a check on this. It happened to my husband a few years ago, low drain and all that forgive me crap. He was like you, full of it and yet he was taking senna and softener and going to the loo every day, so you do not know do you. . Happy gushing...................

Trying not to laugh, but really, thanks for the warning. My nurses keep telling me they want me pooping every.single.day. This helps me understand why. I mostly remember to use a gentle Mirilax every eveninig, but sometimes I get lazy. Dang we're high maintenance!

Mirralax did not work well for me. The Kroger generic equivalent of it did. Look out below!

Mum takes Movicol Sachets, Senna tablets, and still sometimes needs the 'assistance' of a small glass of prune juice!...

This dialysis lark, eh???...

I am sorry, I have to laugh a little. One time I went for a barium enema and after doing all the prep work ( which really keeps you firmly on the potty ) they put me on the table, and whoops, couldn't do the test cuz I was full of poop!!! How in the heck does that happen???

did you have any symptoms that this might be happening?  what did the doctor discover that warranted an X-ray?

I think my BUN numbers were high, among other things.

Only on PD are we obsessed with pooping.  My sister diligently asks me every day about my bowel habits!  I hope all goes well (or went well) for you!  And, hey, where else can we vent about pooping than with fellow PD patients!  :rofl;

 :secret;
It looks like I hit a nerve.  I'm not the only one with this problem, apparently.  I got another X-Ray yesterday, and I still have two BMs still inside me according to the doctor.  So I'm taking 3 teaspoons of Lactulose 4 times a day until December 5th, when I see them again.  My son's wife failed the Bar Exam a few days ago and my mother's 89 year old boyfriend fell. :flower;  It's like nothing but good news!  But I'm still thankful for everything I enjoy.  I know others have it a lot worse than I do.  I took a walk yesterday in 74 degree sunshine through my beautiful neighborhood.  All the lawns are green.  I really enjoyed that.

We have had freezing rain for two day and my furnace went out!  I moved everything into the den.  I had to used a 20 foot extension cord for my machine.  I have an electric heater that looks like a fire in the fireplace and then I turned on the oven.  In the middle of the night the CO alarm went off so I opened a window and the back door for about 15 minutes.  I must be doing something right 'cause Satan is sure after me!!!!!   :thumbup;

Thanksgiving Day, after taking latulose 3 spoonfuls each time, four times a day, just after our prayer of thanks, the laxative kicked in, and I ran to the bathroom in front of ten guests.   :pray;  Be careful what you pray for because it may come true.
