My PD cath has been giving me issues for a week. Last weeked i yanked in my pd cath pretty hard, enough to cause swelling all around it. I went to the clinic and the said i tore the cuffs out, did labs for infection, taped me up and sent me home. But things aren't getting better. I have swelling in the tissues around the cath. Not infection (labs were clear) I feel over full even after draining and I'm just very uncomfortable. I have an apt. on Tuesday and I think ill request a CT scan to check for breaks deep inside Along the tube. Anyone ever heard of this happening? I could find very little on line about it but read that it does happen.

I've neverheard of anyone getting a tear or break in their cath. Pulling on it as hard as you did may have really irritated the tissue around the opening where the cuffs are, but the rest of it just lays in your peritoneum. Let's see what the CT scan looks like and go from there.
Good luck

I was right. CT scan with contrast showed a small hole in my catheter at the top. deep inside. I will be getting a call in the morning with surgery time. :(

Best to get it fixed. You will be just fine. Hang in there.
:secret;

Wishing you the best in getting the catheter replaced.

I had surgery to replace my PD cath, and things just went downhill from there. I developed a HUGE hematoma after surgery, I was admitted to the hospital, on Thanksgiving i was rushed back into surgery, had pd cath and hematoma removed, the next day an emergency hemo cath was placed, 3 weeks later (and still in the hospital) that hemo cath was replaced by an ASH cath, I am told they will attemp to plave a new PD cath in March. In the mean time I do the in-clinic Hemo.3 days a week. My body HATES Hemo! My BP stays crazy high and i feel washed out all of the time. I cant wait to get back to PD!

Have you considered home hemo? With more frequent hemo such as Nxstage you will probably feel totally different. Three day per week dialysis is harsh and hard on the body. It is barely enough to stay alive. Just a thought you may wish to consider.

One of the Drs suggested home hemo, but then said it might not be an option for me. Not sure if its because I have an Ash cath, or because I have pets? or because im scheduled to go back on PD in March?

Sorry about your issues. Pets wont prevent you from doing home hemo. I have my cat on me as I type this.
