Title: Illegal Immigration Amnesty Rally Allowed, WWII Vets told No.
Post by: Hemodoc on October 08, 2013, 11:37:35 AM
Obama in a blatant flaunting of his "powers" as POTUS is allowing an illegal immigration rally for amnesty on government property allegedly shut down but denies access to WWII vets. That sums it up pretty well.

A planned immigration reform rally will take place on the National Mall on Tuesday even though the site is closed due to the government shutdown.
Organizers for the "Camino Americano: March for Immigration Reform" were spotted Monday setting up a stage and equipment on the National Mall for the rally which will take place on Tuesday.
A few scattered barriers around the park have signs informing visitors that the area is closed as a result of the government shutdown.

The Park Service will reportedly allow a pro-immigration reform rally to occur on the National Mall even though the site is technically closed due to the partial government shutdown.

Organizers for the event, titled “Camino Americano: March for Immigration Reform,” set up a stage and equipment for the Tuesday rally as the public was kept out. A spokesperson for the event told the Washington Examiner that the Park Service has granted them permission to utilize the site.

Here's a new Obama outrage:

'Gestapo' tactics meet senior citizens at Yellowstone

NEWBURYPORT — Pat Vaillancourt went on a trip last week that was intended to showcase some of America’s greatest treasures.

Instead, the Salisbury resident said she and others on her tour bus witnessed an ugly spectacle that made her embarrassed, angry and heartbroken for her country.

That's because it's in a legal gray area that allows first amendment activities even during the government shutdown. Under the same provision, a group of WWII vets are being granted access to the WWII memorial (http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-10-02/national/42608327_1_government-shutdown-world-war-ii-memorial-national-park-service).

...the Honor Flight Network, which brings World War II veterans to Washington, is being granted access to conduct First Amendment activities at the memorial.

Nope, the barricades are still up and people are arrested for just jogging in parks on Fed land. You need to get your facts straight my friend.

No, you need to get your facts straight. The Honor Flight Network has been allowed to enter the WWII memorial (http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-10-02/news/chi-chicago-wwii-vets-allowed-to-visit-dc-memorial-20131002_1_mary-pettinato-government-shutdown-world-war-ii-memorial) for the same first amendment reasons as the amnesty rally.

Quote
The Park Service's closing plan, put in place after Congress failed to pass a budget and the government shutdown began Tuesday, allows for First Amendment activities, said Carol Johnson, spokeswoman for the National Mall and memorial parks.

"They're being granted the access under that," she said. "The memorial is, however, legally closed to the public. We're asking for cooperation in that."

Nope, the vets had to knock down the barriers.

World War II veterans knock down police barriers to attend memorial on the National Mall; Update: Did a congressman lead the vets through the barricade?; Update: Congressman says Obama administration knew about veterans’ request and rejected it

Your post is dated on October 2. Here is a post from a couple of days later.

In addition, I saw a video report of the immigration rally which was open. The memorials are still barricaded. Got any more Kool aid?

Could you be any more condescending?

Yes, the barricades are up because the parks are closed. But groups, including both the amnesty rally and the Honor Flight Network, are being allowed access for first amendment activities.

Sorry, source of your information??

The latest being reported is that the memorials are barricaded and wired shut still. If you have a current source that states differently, I would be interested in that.  All the news I have seen is in variance with your opinion.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been away a while.

Sorry, source of your information??

...is right there in the links I posted.

Which, as I posted above, was true, because the parks were closed. That wasn't in dispute.

That's the problem with only looking at news which already fits your views. The key to critical thinking is to question everything, especially that which already fits your views.

Here are some other sources:

Quote
“We’ve had no problems at all,” said Jim McLaughlin, a lead organizer for the Honor Flight Network, the nonprofit group drawn into the dispute when several GOP lawmakers accompanied its guests during their first visit to the memorial hours after the shutdown started.

While Republicans have continued to argue that the monument is closed — images and video of the lawmakers with the visiting veterans quickly became the B-roll on the shutdown’s first day — McLaughlin said in an interview that his group has been able to bring several hundred more veterans to see the site since Oct. 1.

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/how-much-of-the-gop-spin-about-angry-vets-is-true-98362.html

And veterans not part of the Honor Flight Network, who visited on their own, had no trouble:

Quote
...veterans streaming into Washington to see the monument don’t face any major obstacles in their visits, and many complain that they are being used for political gain.

Jarvis said that under the shutdown, he is required by law to reduce park service staffing to those who protect life and property. As a result of that requirement, Jarvis said he was forced to close the national parks. But Jarvis said he issued an order on the first day of the shutdown allowing access to monuments and memorials for “First Amendment activities,” a move that has allowed veterans to visit the World War II Memorial.
