Title: My Name is Dave
Post by: dparker4077 on September 18, 2013, 04:32:29 AM
Hello,

My name is Dave, and I am a 73yo man who started Dialysis Feb 2013.
I was on Hemo until three weeks ago, and am now on PD using a Liberty Cycler.

I live in the Chicago area near O'Hare AP.

I must say that the PD is much more gentle than Hemo.   The sticking of the needles in my arm, was not bad, but having one hand movement restricted was hard.  I tried to do work on my laptop or study for my Amateur Radio License, but having only 1 hand to do all the work was very difficult.

Now that I am on PD, I have both hands free and with the extended patient and drain lines on the cycler kit give me a 20' "leash".  I can work at the computer, and best of all, can get to the growler to relieve myself is necessary.  :-)
I had to be very persistent to find out that there were 20' kits available.  When I finally got the information, I was told nobody uses them.   My answer was if people knew about them they would most likely be used a lot more.. :-)

Hi Dave, and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  I liked PD when I was on it.  Then I got a transplant for 17 years so when it failed there was too much scar tissue for PD to work so I'm on Nocturnal Hemo 3x a week for 8 hrs.  It would work but my blood pressure (BP) tanks into the 60's so they have to shut the UF off.   :stressed;

I hope you come here often.  Lots of old stuff to read.  That should take up some time.   :rofl;

Welcome to IHD Dave, hope PHD works well for you.  What class license are you going for?  I am a Tech Class for about 15 years, have fun with the hobby.  Maybe we will talk on the air sometime, I am in Rockford and we could meet on one of the local repeaters.  73's

I used 20ft kits when I was on the Liberty PD cycler.   The only limit of the 20ft line is that it does not support multiple connects, so you have to add the multi connect set if you wish to come off sometime during treatment (less necessary with the 20ft line than the 10ft).
