Hello all! I haven't posted in a while because I haven't needed too due to a great transplant and an even better time adjusting to school. I'm currently enrolled in IB Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology. My career destination is going to be a Pediatric Nurse. I don't know what college I'll go to yet. I want to go somewhere near my friend that's going out of state because she is literally my best friend on the planet and is like a second sister to me. Her name is Coral, and today she helped me with a garage sale...that failed miserably...but that's not what this post is about.
Now to start off, let me give you a little background. On June 8th, I got off Dialysis at 97.3kg. The next day, my transplant made me go to 108kg that I slowly lost. Now, I'm starting to gain weight despite not being on steroids. I'm up to 112kg (but I have noticed it fluctuate around 110-112). So this wasn't satisfying to the hospital.
My clinic basically went like this:
Social Worker
SW: "Oh it seems you've gained weight. What went wrong?" (Not your job, but fine, I'll bite)
Me: "I don't know, I haven't changed my eating habits much which never made me gain this excessively. I am planning to join a gym though, so I'm not too worried."
SW: "Alright, well we need to work on your weight. I'll let the dietitian know."
Dietitian
D: "Wow, you've gained a decent amount since transplant. What's going on?"
Me: "I don't know what's causing this sudden weight gain, but I'm going to join the gym with my friend and make a routine out of it."
D: "Ok, let's spend 15 minutes talking about ways to lose weight."
Doctor
Doc: "You've gained a lot of weight."
Me: "I know, I'm going to join a gym."
Doc: "You know the consequences of higher weight? We're worried about that."
Me: "I know, I'm well aware...that's why I'm joining a gym."
Doc: "Exercise more."
Me (not aloud): What the f**k?! I just friggin said...!
Get the idea here? If not, you'll notice I have a desire to lose weight and join a gym, but when I tried to alert them of that, it went in one ear, and straight out the other.
If you're not going to respect what I have to say, than why should I respect what YOU have to say? Regardless of if you've my new transplant team and you have jurisdictions, you have a physical quote that should be embedded in you. The patient is ALWAYS right!
On A Separate Note
Do you guys want me to post my story updates? I plan to start writing here in the next few weeks. I'm debating getting a Windows 8 Laptop/Tablet thing so I have word on the go to type (Much lighter than my laptop, and more versatile than my iPad).
I think that's respectable, right? A computer for writing and design? It'd be like a Widnows Surface RT. Like $320 for that thing :P

Yes, keep writing, but go to Transplant Stories. That is where I would put it now that you're dua.... transplanted. (LOL)
You are correct on the transplant team. They need to give you a chance plus listen to you.

Sorry about the weight. It's always a challenge when things change.
Even if you don't join a gym, it might help to walk a bit each day, but find what works best for YOU!
I am just thrilled that your kidney is doing well!

congrats. on the transplant. I would think that it would be perfectly jormal to gain weight postbtransplant, even without steroids. You are feeling better, can eat normally. Why is that so hard for the medical team to understand? I joined Weight Watchers to get the weight off post transplant (with steroids). I lost 23 lbs, so going on a sensible diet, plus the exercise that you are planning at the gym, should help. Good luck with your studies. Must be an exciting time for you.
