I had an interesting thought today while finishing bringing in the last of my 5.5 cords of firewood for the long winter ahead. We heat 100% with wood . I cut down the trees myself with a chainsaw and the rest is done with no power equipment. I haul the wood in by wheelbarrow , move it by hand and split it with a 16 pound maul. Very "old fashioned " like in the very old days.
In our living room stands the wood stove that burns the wood I load by hand. Across the room about 10 feet away stands the ultra high tech NXstage dialysis machine with its own water purification pack that takes our well water and makes ultra pure dialysate. Amazing dichotomy between the 2 things in the room. We live both old and new .
We grow our own fruit (with help from the used dialystae for fertilizer) and live in the woods. Yet we are hooked up on line and can communicate with the world.
Just musing here about how strange life can be , especially with dialysis and the technology behind it.

It is amazing how many times firewood can warm you. From the tree to the stick you put in the stove. Oh and then shoveling out the ashes and cleaning the chimney. LOL
