CMS extends comment period for QIP, PPS
AUGUST 30, 2013 No Comments

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has extended the comment period for the "End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Prospective Payment System (PPS), Quality Incentive Program (QIP), and Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies" proposed rule to midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The original deadline was today, August 30.

Comments can be submitted electronically at www.regulations.gov. At the site, use the rule's Iidentification number CMS-2013-0150-0002 to find the document.

The regulations.gov data center is undergoing scheduled maintenance and as a result, the site may be intermittently unavailable from 9:00 pm to 12 am EST on August 30, the site announced.

The proposed rule, which CMS published on July 1, includes a reduction in the prospective payment system to account for lower drug utilization as required by the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. CMS proposes reducing the base rate in the PPS by 12% ($29.52 per treatment), making the CY 2014 base rate $216.95. CMS also proposes a market basket update of 2.5% when offset by a productivity adjustment of 0.4%.

CMS is also requesting comments on changes to the Quality Incentive Program for 2014, which is part of the proposed rule.
