Last night, I began having quite a bit of diarrhea. I got up probably three to four times over the night going and going. I had to miss school because I was so crappy ( :lol;) and bloated. I ended up deciding to call my Dialysis Center which is a children's center in a children's hospital. I wanted to call them to see if I could skip today, Friday, and come in first thing tomorrow morning since I felt so terrible. I called around 12:05pm when my Dad woke me up from my nap. The nurse said she would ask the Manager there. Ok, that's fine. So, I'm sitting there, waiting. So, thirty five minutes go by and I'm thinking "How long does it take to find out if I can come in tomorrow...better yet, you should tell one of the scheduled patients that they have to come in a different time since my situation is more important". Oh wait, it gets better. I called back around 12:45 and she said that she still couldn't find the manager and that she would get me an answer A.S.A.P. and I should expect a call in a few minutes. Ok, finally.
She calls back around 12:55 or so (yeah, a few minutes to them is 10 minutes to us) and tells me THIS:
"Yeah, I still haven't gotten an answer from the manager about you coming in tomorrow, but you should come in so we can assess you." :Kit n Stik; :boxing; Bare in mind, we have a 45 minute drive to the hospital with light traffic. AND I HAVE DIARRHEA.
They even, when we finished there, tried to convince me to do Dialysis...with Diarrhea... OMG. So, I've got Dialysis tomorrow morning.
What's your irritating experiences?
Don't even get me started on the fact that they told me the kidney was mine, but 3 hours later randomly gave it to someone else for no reason other than they "needed it more".
Or the times where they continuously hassled me about my weight to the point of depression.
Or maybe the fact that they didn't put me on the Inactive Transplant list until a year into my Dialysis? They traditionally put all kids on the Inactive list when they start Dialysis...why am I the exception?

If you have Diarrhea, you get rid of fluid and potassium. So, I would think you could skip a day. There is a virus going around that does this to you and I don't blame you. Next time TELL them do not ASK them. They will also hold it over your head for a transplant. Noncompliance crap.
Hope you feel better. Keep posting you are hilarious! :rofl;

My center lets me switch times all the time. I guess I'm lucky. Years ago the clinic manager called me in and said no more switching. I explained to her that if a spot is open for a next day treatment there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to switch to keep compliant. We had a bit of a heated talk but ultimately I told her its my life and if I feel like taking a Friday night off and coming in on a Saturday then I'm going to do it. This manager has since left the center and I have a great relationship with my evening shift nurse. She gave me her cell number and when I feel like skipping out until the next day I just text her and she checks to see if there is an open spot. Of course I've been at this same clinic for over 8 years. I believe we all deserve a break in our routine every so often as long as your labs are good and it's not hurting you why on earth would they care?? Stand your ground. It's not like you want to completely skip out of treatment you just want to do a different day! Good luck! G.
