Title: Flooded Chicagoland!
Post by: MooseMom on April 19, 2013, 09:40:30 PM
Does anyone here on IHD who lives in Chicagoland have a dry basement?

I don't.

We got 6.6 inches of rain yesterday.

We also got the last turbo super-duper dehumidifier at our local Ace Hardware AND the last 18 gallon shop-vac.

Anyone else here get flooded out?  Where in Chicagoland are you?  Anyone here near Des Plaines?

The pictures I've seen of  Wyoming IL ( friend's place ) were pretty bad. Sorry you got flooded. We got snowed in 18 inches between Monday and Tuesday. Today was the first day we were able to leave our property since Monday.

It's pretty amazing all the weather lately.

My friend has been watching my dog and house while we have been gone and apparently all we have is a little crack in the foundation and a small puddle. Our sump pump is keeping up with the rest of it and I am grateful.

Ain't ACE Hardware great?  I love my job at Ace.  Really good helpful people!

Sorry for all the flooding you guys are experiencing.  When we had that flood in 2010, it got to 4 feet of our 10 foot crawl space.  We were lucky, but others were not.  I remember taking my shop vac to my neighbors and helping to keep water from reaching the floor levels of their home.  It was exhausting, but we got it done. That school that they showed floating down the road on TV, was a school down the street from us.  Several lives lost in that Nashville flood.  It all happened so quickly!

Hope you get relief soon Moosey!

The Grand River in my town is supposed to peak tomorrow at 22 feet over the flood line.  So far, I've only got one small wet spot in the middle of my rec room, so I'm doing good!

lmunchkin, I didn't know you work at ACE!  That's my second home!  We've been to our local ACE 5 times in the past three days!  I remember that flood in your area back in 2010; that was terrible.

Jbeany,...22feet above the flood line?!  That's astonishing!  Glad to hear you only have a little puddle.

I'm right in the middle of most of these pics, but the river makes a big curve around my neighborhood about 2 miles away, and my area is up on a bit of rise, so pretty dry so far!

Wow, just saw pictures of whats going on in Chicago.  Its awful and all those things can not be replaced. So much lost.

Yea, MM, Ive worked for Ace since 1999.  It is a Great place to work!!  I hope to retire there.

Is there anything at all, we can do for the people up there?  You know they have my Prayers, but anything else?

We didn't get any water in our basement, but the townhomes a couple blocks over did. I took pictures of the flooded DuPage River. The flood closed the road for 4 days and the highway nearby for a couple where I-55 and I-80 interchange is. Luckily we live on a hill and not by a retention pond, those were flooded to in our neighborhood.

Chris the latest I heard was 17" or more in Chicago.  That is a lot of rain!  We got a little over 14 here in Nashville.  I sure hope it recedes soon.  The ground will be saturated for some time to come, but a least start receeding!

I know there is a group from Nashville up there now trying to help.  There maybe more of that I dont know.  That is so devastating to go through.  You feel helpless.

God bless,
