Title: I found a positive about being on hold for a transplant!
Post by: chiromac on April 09, 2013, 06:26:59 PM
I've been stuck in STL for over 3 year do to all my health issues & being on the transplant list.  I've had to tell my daughter that trips would have to wait until dad gets a transplant, but I've been but on hold so I can travel without the worry of "missing the call."  I founds a center to get my hemo in Ft. Lauderdale, then see family and then we are heading to Disney for 2 days.  I think I'm even happier about the trip than my daughter.   :yahoo;

Think your D center will let you film a parody "I'm going to Disney World" ad from your chair?   >:D

Seriously, way to turn it around and live it up!   :2thumbsup;

That's something I never thought of... I'm still angry about being put on hold, though.. not because of the reason, because the reason is valid, but because of how they went about it.. if they had come right out and told me that they were unsure if my weight would be an issue for surgery, I might not have been as angry.. instead, I was told I was being assessed for a new high antibody list..

Perhaps after that anger subsides, I'll learn not to jump every time the phone rings and enjoy the freedom that not waiting for a transplant brings

You are right, being on hold sucks.  I still jump every time the phone rings & remember after I answer I could have let it go to voicemail.  I was told to get my BMI down & I understand the need, but it is harder to take when your transplant surgeon needs to lose as much weight as you do. The good news is, in one month I'm taking my amazing daughter to Disney World.  :yahoo;

 :yahoo;  The FL trip is in 10 days, I can not wait to bring my little girl to WDW.  I'm go in to the Transplant department and I will see if they take me off hold.  I lost weight (as long as I do not eat or drink before seeing the Transplant Surgeon) and crossing my fingers that my A1C has gone down.  I guess I will see soon, I just hope I've done enough to get back on the list.

VERY COOL!!!!! :yahoo;  I've been on the list for over 10 years but I travel when ever I like but usually locally so I can either catch a plane or drive back if I get the call. So far I have had no issues. Now I never tell them I'm traveling and my dialysis unit sets up dialysis for where ever I go. I have always just figured if the call came I would find a way to get back in time. I have even been on a few 4 day cruises. Maybe I'm playing with fire but I'd go CRAZY if I didn't get away from time to time!!  I'm close to Disney in Tampa FL area let me know if you have a night that might be good for dinner!!!  Love to meet others here on IHD
